Talk about going out on top! Indiana Coach Jerry Yeagley led the Hoosiers to their 6th national championship yesterday in Columbus. And he's retiring -- leaving as Division I's all-time winningest coach -- 544-101-45.

Interesting game....I don't know who planned games in Columbus in December, but it was pretty dumb of them to not think there would be snow.

Anyway, Indiana was not a bad looking team at all. Jacob Peterson, a freshman forward who tallied Indiana's second goal, was quite hot...

I think the NCAA picked Columbus since they supposedly have one of the finest soccer-only stadiums in the country. But they of course had to know it would be frigid -- and the stands did look pretty empty.

We went to all the Final Fours when they were held in Richmond in the mid-90s -- and two of those were really cold to sit through (esp. the one where Wisconsin came in out of the blue, brought the nut-numbing weather with 'em and won the whole thing!). They moved it even further south to Greensboro after that.

Next year's bound to be warmer: it's at the Home Depot Center in Carson, CA.

In more ways than one:
against St. Louis
against Kentucky
also against Kentucky
against Wisconsin
against Penn State
against UCLA
and, finally, in the championship (and in a decent closeup!) biggrin.gif

Oh, and Yeagley actually broke the record several games ago, in part because the previous record-holder turned out to have four games too many to his credit (because of an ineligible player).

As much as we hate to see him go, he's leaving the team in good hands (Freitag, his assitant, is succeeding him, and the rest of the staff is staying). Go coach!
