Yep you read that right. The Metrostars were purchased earlier this week by energy drink company Red Bull. The team announced today that they will be called "Red Bull New York" and will wear red, blue, and silver- just like a can of Red Bull!

I'm so freaking pissed off about this. I refuse to call the team "the Red Bulls" or anything like that. They will always be the Metros to me. The good news is that Red Bull did pick up the financing for the Harrison, NJ soccer-specific stadium for the team.

I was wondering about you when I saw this in the news.

Immediately wondered if you were gonna change your name...lol. Sorry you're not happy. The new stadium will be cool though.

Let's add this to the lunacy: at present the Metrostars straddle the region by having bith NY and NJ in their official name. When they're rebranded as "Red Bull New York," they'll be playing in New Jersey....why not Red Bull New Jersey?

As a New Jersey soccer fan, I can't help but be disappointed.

MLS got it right when they initially named the Metros; it reached out to New York but gave credit to where the team actually played, unlike the teams from other kind of football.

Even when they dropped the unwieldy NY-NJ name, it still stayed neutral.

Now we've become yet another team's doormat.

No, actually, I'm refusing to change my name. I could, but A. I have no clue what to change it to and B. I still plan on calling the team the Metros, b/c that's what they always will be to me.

Glad to see you're working your way through your "identity crisis" here where we can support you in your time of need. I thought you would crash when Mathis bombed out. But now that they've taken Metro from you as well you must really be in need of therapy.
