Guus Hiddink has just signed a two year contract with Russia. Knowing Mr Hiddink's track record, there's no doubt in my mind that he will help Russia qualify for Euro 2008 and then leave to coach another country.
It's too bad Hiddink moves around so much, because he's a phenominal coach and could really put together a dynasty.
Then again, he probably moves around lots so he leaves a winning legacy behind, thus making his reputation that much better.
I'm very worried about two teams and their coaches...England and Portugal.
England has done very well with Sven Gorarn Eriksson as manager. They need to have a non-British manager if they want to succeed...bring a different approach to the English game.
As for Portugal...Luis Felipe Scolari will leave after the World Cup. I can only hope that Portugal also looks outside of the country. Within Portugal, the managers are highly corrupt when it comes to the National Team. Not a single person would have the guts that Scolari did, to take out Figo late in the quarter-final against England. It obviously worked but again, no one would have done it. I hope they bring in another Brazilian...and eventually bring in Jose Mourinho!

England NEED a coach with a different style of play. Imagine England if they hired Scolari or Mourinho...they would be just as, if not more, entertaining than Brazil...
How about the US? Who's out there for the US coaching job if Bruce Arena leaves? Right now, he's got a contract extension locked, but he may decide to leave on his own terms. Bob Bradley was considered a prospect, but his time with the Metros was less than successful. A name that hasn't been tossed around much is Steve Nicol...he's certainly done a great job with the U.S., and the most recent foreign U.S. coach, Bora Militunovic (in 1994), did a good job.

Is Bruce Arena considering leaving his post as manager of Team USA? He's done a phenominal job and I don't see why he'd want to leave.
Canada has done a great job in getting Frank Yallop...former Canadian International and of course, San Jose Earthquakes manager!

No...I'm just speculating. It's unheard of these days for a coach to lead his team to more than two World Cups...
Canada is certainly improving. Hopefully, they will knock Mexico out of 2010 World Cup qualifying!
Don't forget about the 2007 Women's World Cup either. Qualifying for that in the CONCACAF region starts in November. The U.S. and Canada received byes into the semifinal round, meaning that they can both qualify by winning just one game. The other teams likely to be in the semifinals are Costa Rica and Mexico. The U.S., current Gold Medalists, finished third in 2003 and Canada finished fourth.

All I have to say is that it's great to be a soccer fan in North America...
***********************************************
NEW YORK (AP) -- Barcelona will make a three-game preseason exhibition tour to the United States in August.
Barcelona will play Mexican teams in the Los Angeles area on Aug. 6 and Houston on Aug. 9, then face Major League Soccer's New York Red Bulls at East Rutherford, N.J., on Aug. 12.
***********************************************
And of course, Canada will be hosting the 2007 U-20 World Cup of Soccer. It's also known as the World Youth Championship, one of the most premiere soccer events in the world! On Friday May 19, Brazil will take on Canada in my hometown of Edmonton, Alberta. I so wish I could go, but with work...I'm unable to make the five hour drive to E-Town frown

FRUSTRATION!
The Metros may be Red Bull New York now, but the product on the field has not changed...a 1-1 tie with RSL leaves me wondering what the difference is. A late defensive breakdown leads to a late goal for the opponent...it's a story that's been played out more times than I can count in Metros/RBNY history...

ABC is stepping up their promotion efforts for the World Cup since ABC, ESPN & E2 will be broadcasting all the matches from Germany. Last night Landon Donovan was a guest on Jimmy Kimmel Live. Although there was the old interview talk about how less popular soccer is here than the rest of the world, Jimmy seemed somewhat knowledgeable and said he's attended matches, including a World Cup match back in '94. Jimmy said as incentive we should start killing our players when they screw up, a la Colombia. Landon was also promoting his new EA Game but when Jimmy read the title, he spelled out FIFA - so not as knowledgeable as I originally thought.
As a side note, Landon looked really good in his jeans. Luckily, he is not too familiar with the concept of facing the camera on these shows so I got a nice view of his backside while he and Jimmy were practicing headers. Hopefully after the final roster is announced, we'll be able to see more soccer stud interviews on ABC talk shows.
We should start an e-mail writing campaign. More soccer studs! More soccer studs!

Sounds like a plan simontexas! When should we start?
ABC and ESPN are definitely going to be kicking up the quality of the MLS broadcasts over the next few seasons. The new broadcasting deal signed this year saw the league finally make a profit on TV rights (they were previously buying the time, now ESPN is buying the right to broadcast the games). That means that ESPN is taking a bigger risk; thus, they will probably market more heavily and improve the quality of broadcasts by adding more cameras in different positions. I think you can already see the changes this year- ESPN2 has delievered some excellent camera angles, and after Juan Pablo Garcia's freekick a couple weeks back, they are even trying to get MLS and FIFA to let them install cameras in the goalposts.

MM13, I think we should start straight away. That way they can have someone ready to go right after the final roster is announced in less than 2 weeks like Taylor or Oguchi.
Here are the links to their contact by e-mail pages.

Well, here is the big news of the day.
MLS All-Stars v. Chelsea FC in Chicago Excerpt:
CHICAGO -- Major League Soccer and Chelsea FC today announced that the star-studded English Premier League champions will face the MLS All-Stars in the 2006 Sierra Mist MLS All-Star Game to be played at the new home of the Chicago Fire in Bridgeview, IL on Saturday, August 5 (live on ESPN at 6:30 p.m. ET).
Chelsea returns to the United States for the third time under Manager Jose Mourinho. Last July, Chelsea withstood a spirited first half by D.C. United to capture a 2-1 victory in an international match before 31,473 at FedEx Field. Nearly all of Chelsea's top players - including Frank Lampard, John Terry, Wayne Bridge, Joe Cole and Sean Wright-Phillips of England, Didier Drogba of Ivory Coast, Hernan Crespo of Argentina, Arjen Robben of Holland and Damien Duff of the Republic of Ireland - saw significant minutes of action in that game. Chelsea's full squad is scheduled to make the trip in August to take on the MLS All-Stars.
Jose Mourinho said: "I am very happy to be coming back to the United States again. This will be our third year preparing for the new Premiership season in America and it is ideal preparation. "This time we will have a very tough game against the best players in the MLS. Last year we played D.C. United and I have to say I was very impressed with the standard of American players then. We have several in England and, of course, the U.S. national team has qualified for the World Cup again. It will also be great to come to Chicago for the first time. The American fans are very welcoming and knowledgeable about English and European football, and in Europe we all know about Chicago's famous sporting history, with the Chicago Bulls, Michael Jordan and the White Sox."

It appears that Luis Felipe Scolari will leave Portugal at the end of the World Cup and become Manager of England.
I think it's a great move by England, as they get a man who's not afraid to throw punches and get the job done. He's the type of manager that would take a guy like Wayne Rooney and David Beckham and bench them, if it means that they win a game. Most other coaches wouldn't have the ball to do something like that....(look at how he handled Romario and Luis Figo)
With news of Scolari being leaked to the media, already I'm hearing people whine and complain. "This is a blow to British Coaching" "We shouldn't have a foreigner coach our National Team"...
GIVE IT A REST PEOPLE!!! The goal of every National Team is to win their Confederations Championship (ie. Gold Cup, Euro), and to win the World Cup. If it means hiring a Brazilian coach in England to get the job done, then so be it. I'm sick and tired of hearing people say that you should hire a coach based on Nationality...just hire the person who's best for the job, regardless of age, race, sex, or nationality.

Excellent points, Enigma. Scolari will be a fantastic coach for England. Watch out for England in 2010...
