I'm a big fan of Football and Soccer, but I was wondering if anyone knows which came first?

I think both sports can trace their roots back to games played by the Romans before Christ. However, professional soccer clubs were organizing in Britain by the 1880's. If I had to guess, I'd say soccer is older, but I don't know about the history of football.

Soccer as we know it, is the older of the two sports.

The Football Association, the national organization for English Soccer was founded in 1863. Soccer had been played throughout the 19th in England with varying rules, but it is at this point where the unified "soccer" rules were created.

The first "football" game is the 1869 game between Rutgers and Princeton, the first college football game. A more contemporary version (with rules much closer to modern rules - save the forward pass) would be played in 1874, in a game between Harvard and McGill.
