It starts tonight in Seattle, vs. the Catholics, Celitc.

It's on Fox Sports World/Espanol aka The Soccer Channels.

I have tickets for the match on Sunday vs. Club America. Anyone else going?

I tried to get tickets for me and my Brother for tonights game in Seattle, but I think the game sold out pretty quickly. My partner has no interest in soccer. He will go to mariner games however which is a plus! smile.gif

I will just have to hold out until 2006. We are planning a pilgramage for world cup in Germany.

Hope you have a great time Jim!

Sold out here for the Lincoln Center opening the first day. Bummer. Actually the first couple of hours if I remember correctly.

I got tickets for the Boca Juniors-Celtic game in Cleveland.

Mariner fan- you're planning a pilgrimage to Germany too? LOL....my friend and I are planning to go there too....
Jim Allen
Me too. It's the summer opera festival season at the same time, so I'll get to do both.

Well, I just turned the "match" off. Celtic were shockingly bad--it was 3-nil to Manchester United, after 40 minutes. Man Yoo were pretty much playing the first squad, didn't see Paul Scholes though. Ruud van Nistelroy can make goals out of nothing, amazing. And I just suspect that Man Utd. are not going to miss Beckham all that much; Ole Gunnar Solksjaer, his replacement set up the first goal with a beautiful left foot pass, something Becks couldn't really do. Plus, The Baby Faced Assassin actually scores goal, too.

No Tim Howard; it was the backup, Ray Carroll.

If I remember correctly tickets go on sale in 2005 according to the 2006 world cup web site. It is going to be a family trip, me, my dad, and brother. My partner and sister inlaw are planning to go shopping while we are at the games. smile.gif We are hoping to get tickets for games around the Frankfurt area, my dad is from that region in Germany, so he can show us some of his old haunts as well.

Boca Juniors vs. Celtic last night....

Wow, those Celtic fans were loud! I was sitting in the middle of a Boca Juniors supporter's club from Toronto and they were pretty loud too...

Both teams played a very dirty match. There were at least 8 yellow cards, plus a red card to a Boca player. Celtic ended up winning though, on a 59th minute goal.

The only reason that Celtic really won this match though, was because their central defenders were huge. They dominated the air and prevented Boca from getting any attacks on goal through the air.

Need to rant here. Speaking of dirty Scottish teams....my boy Wayne Rooney of Everton might be out with ankle ligament damage after a harsh tackle by a Rangers player. f**king Scottish teams......

I'm really looking forward to the Manchester United v. Club America match tomorrow. I hope Paul Scholes plays.

Guess I'll just have to console myself with photos

Man of the Match Ruud van Nistelrooy - the natural prophylactic for prostate cancer.

I had fun today at the Man Yoo v. Club America match at the Los Angeles Coliseum.

Roughly 60,000 there. Surprisingly, it was a pretty even split of fans though the Club America contingent at the top behind the western goal were quite vocal; the colored flares they let off were a nice touch too!

Man Utd. played basically a B team; no Giggs, Scholes, Keane and Solskjaer for only the last 15 minutes or so. Ruud v N. scored a great goal out of nothing, Diego Forlan scored twice and the defensive pairing of the hot Irishman John O'Shea and Rio Ferdinand were imperious. Club America played well but their finishing was abysmal and they just lacked that one spark that would have kept them in the game. All in all, it was what it was: a pre-season match to get the team in shape. They played at half-speed really and there was none of the tackling you'd see in a Premiereship match. Good clean fun though. And as a nice bonus, on the bus home I had a great chat with two nice Mancunians who were impressed that I'd stuck with Everton for over 23 years.

Jim Allen, now the important question: Carroll or Howard?
Jim Allen
What, as the backup? I mean, Barthez is the number 1, he's just been given the time off as France was in some stupid FIFA-sanctioned tournament. They seem to like Howard, though, and he'll get the start at one of the East Coast games. Yesterday was Ricardo. He did well, but to be honest, Club America were hitting the ball 30 feet over the net most of the time; the phrase "couldn't hit the ocean from the end of a pier" springs to mind.

I really liked the O'Shea/Ferdinand pairing in central defense. O'Shea's tall, with good pace and Ferdinand is tough and has good positional sense; they seem to complement each other well. But the rumor is that O'Shea is going to play one of the wing spots.
