FOOTBALLER IAN FOUND HANGING
Nov 13 2002
Club stunned by death
Mark Mcgivern Exclusive
A JUNIOR football team were in shock last night after one of their star players hanged himself.
Cumbernauld United's Ian Valantine, 33, took his own life, leaving a six- year-old daughter.
The player, nicknamed Valley, had been depressed recently and had talked of suicide. He was found at home by his ex-partner.
Last night, one team-mate said: "Big Valley was a great guy and very popular with everyone. It's hard to think how he could have become so depressed.
"He was one of the most popular members of the squad and the life and soul of the party. His close friends knew he had been a bit down, but no one was prepared for this."
Factory worker Ian split up with Debbie, the mother of daughter Amanda, six, some time ago but they kept in touch as friends.
