What a bunch of dried up bitter shrews these hags must be!

The group is made up of women who have lost their sons or daughters who were serving their country. However Ligaya Ligman can't join because she is not a US citizen; Ligman is a permanent resident and a taxpayer and her son who died in Iraq was a citizen.

"Okay so thanks for letting your son sacrifice his life for our freedom and so we can help spread democracy around the world. And thanks a bunch for paying taxes to help keep the war going. Super sweet of you hun. But sorry you can't join our club. You're Filipino after all." Uh, hypocritical much?

This is an actual quote, as oppossed to the one above I made up.

QUOTE
There's nothing we can do because that's what our organization says: You have to be an American citizen,\" national President Ann Herd said Thursday. \"We can't go changing the rules every time the wind blows.\"
These bitches sound like the clique in Heathers or Mean Girls. Sorry they lost their children in a ridiculous war. A mother should never have to bury a child. But these skanks need to be added to the People Who Should Be Shot thread.

More Republican hypocrites. Yawn. This hypocricy by the Republicans is growing tiresome. How Christian of these women to exclude someone who lost their son while he was defending America.

The members of the executive board who voted against changing the rule are stupid, short-sighted morons, but there's nothing in the article that states it's a Republican organization or linked to the Republican party in any way.

I think the phrase "stupid, short-sighted morons" is the qualification needed for all Republicans. smile.gif

Where do you get the SLIGHTEST idea that the Gold Star Mothers, an organization with its roots in WWI, is a Republican organization or is dominated by Repbulicans? I guess I shouldn't be amazed at how any story can be turned into a GOP-bashing session.

Aren't there people on this board who have heard stories from the parents or grandparents about the blue stars that hung in windows during wartime -- one star for each family member. When that service member died in action, the blue star was replaced with a gold star. There are some blue stars out there today, but not many. My mother put one in her window when I was in Afghanistan. The fraternity house next to my apartment building has 4.

That said, the current policy is wrong and should be changed, and this mother should be allowed the recognition she deserves. If you read further into the article, you will find comments from others, including the past president, who recognize the changing nature of our armed forces and advocate for policy reflecting such.

Bitches, shrews, hags? That's a little out of line, in my book. And they sons and daughters lost come from more than just this war.

The Gold Star Mothers will now admit non-citizens.

QUOTE
The change was approved unanimously Monday during the American Gold Star Mothers' annual convention in the Dallas area.

\"This change to our constitution was the right thing to do, but we had to make the change the right way,\" said Judith Young, the group's new president.
Translation: "The bad publicity was a pain in the ass and while we're stupid, we're not THAT stupid."

I am glad, this was long overdue. I hope it helps some of these women somehow. My Grandmother was a double gold star mother - two uncles I never had the chance to meet.

Truthfully - we as a country do not do NEARLY enough for our war vets or their famalies. Whatever slim support they can find together is to be commended and encouraged.
