Full Version: KC Players Veto Buck Showalter

Charlie in the Trees
The first second third and fourth choice of Kansas City baseball fans for the job of Royals manager ... Buck Showalter ... was passed over because the players were scared.

The worst GM in baseball, Allard Baird, is publicly denying that the players vetoed the choice of Showalter, so it's probably true. "An unnamed player" reported to the KC Star that he told Baird he would be demand to be traded if Showalter were hired. If Baird had balls, the player would be outed and sent packing on the next flight to St. Petersburg. This team is too stinky for players to think they can make those sort of demands of management.

Jeff Suppan played for Showalter in Arizona in 1998. Had an ERA of 6.68 that season. Think he might be the one? Other than Mike Sweeney, there isn't a single Royal that probably shouldn't be traded, if the team could get anything more for them other than a case of River Mud.

Showalter: View of Me is Skewed

The Royals absentee owner, David Glass of Wal-Mart, doesn't care enough about winning to step in and exert some power and control over the team. Of course, if he had a competent GM, Glass would be justified in his hands-off ownership style, but we can't afford that now. This is the same whiney-butt attitude and management style that has kept the Royals "stinky" for too many years now.

Sadly, the same thing is slowly but very surely happening to our Chiefs. Carl Peterson is probably a candidate for worst GM in football, but owner Lamar Hunt is too detatched from the fans and the mood of KC at his cozy home in Dallas, and will never get rid of his buddy Carl.
