I got this in my company e-mail...some idiot is trolling for air time. This is simply unbelieveable. I would wish for everyone to call the contact number and tell them how many days of work gays really miss. This is highly insulting, so read with caution....

KRAFT'S "KRAZY" SPONSORSHIP OF GAY GAMES

Kraft foods is sponsoring the Gay Games. Why, when the national sexuality survey by the CDC shows gays miss work almost twice as frequently as non-gays? Why is Kraft encouraging a lifestyle that produces less productive employees?

Conducting talk show interviews on this touchy topic is Dr. Cameron, Chairman of the Family Research Institute who headed the three-man team that published the heretofore unpublished CDC findings.

Said Dr. Cameron, "You've got to wonder whether Kraft is serving its shareholders. A major problem in American business is employee absenteeism. And here Kraft is spending money to support a lifestyle that makes absenteeism worse. Kraft shareholders ought to demand a change."

In replying to those critical of Kraft's decision, Marc Firestone, Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary of Kraft Foods Inc., said At Kraft we truly respect all kinds of differences. And diversity is not a selective concept. By definition, it's nothing if not inclusive. We respect diversity of ethnicity, gender, experience, background, personal style and yes, sexual orientation and gender identity. Recognizing, respecting and valuing these differences helps us be a more successful business and a workplace where all employees can realize their full potential."

Kraft owns Maxwell House, Post, Oscar Mayer and Nabisco brands, which account for almost 75% of the company's revenues The CDC study revealed that while the proportion of homosexuals working full-time was about the same as non-homosexuals, the work attendance of homosexuals was poorer. In any 30-day period, 34% of homosexuals, as opposed to 19% of non-homosexuals, missed at least one day of work. This tendency to miss work showed up among homosexuals of both sexes - 32% of homosexual men as opposed to 17% of non-homosexual men, and 36% of lesbians, as opposed to 22% of non-homosexual women.

Complete analysis of the CDC national sexuality survey appears in the June issue of the peer-reviewed scientific journal Psychological Reports.

Geez, makes me wonder if they are going to pull out those survey results from the 80's that showed we die 15-20 years sooner than straights and that 75% of us have had more than 1,000 sexual partners. What a much of morons.

This thread was so fascinating, I looked up and realized I missed my bus. Oh, well, screw it - I'll stay home today.

Hmmmm....this thing sounds very suspect....an "unpublished" CDC study.....and why would the CDC which researches diseases be doing a study on sexuality and workplace attendance? My searches on the internet and on the CDC site turned up nothing in either of these areas.

But the Family "Research" Institute has a history of twisting or just outright fabrication facts. I read one of their reports claiming that only 1% of the population was gay. They justified it by saying only those who were sexually active and exchanged fluids with someone of the other sex were actually gay. People who had same-sex fantasies, mutual masturbation, or were abstinent were only "philosophical gays" and did not count.

Paul Cameron=discredited, disreputed propagandists - How exactly does the CDC even have these data when the federal government does not routinely gather information on one's sexual orientation? What exactly is the source of Mr. Cameron's crap?

I am sure that any decent statistician, given about 30 minutes, can completely debunk anything Cameron has ever "published" (most of his "research" is self-published and not peer reviewed).

Funny I'm always having to take a coworker's on call weekends because they have something to do with thier children, not to even mention all the time off they need for said children during the regular work week. I'm not complaining mind, when me and mine have our kids I'll take advantage, too; just mentioning. These people and the ones who buy this line of crap are idiots.

Funny, I used to deal with exactly the same thing. I was even told because I was "single" days off and weekends and vacation plans shouldnt be as important to me because timeoff was really to be spent with children. I didn't mind covering for someone who was sick but after a while I stopped covering because the kids were sick. You wanted them you deal with them. Oh yeah, I only called in sick three times in 5 years.

I used to do clinical lab work. Hospitals of course have to be open 365 days a year so most workers rotated holidays. For myself, I always volunteered to work Christmas. I don't celebrate it so it was not a big deal and it meant I got Thanksgiving off.
I had a coworker, a gay man, who volunteered for every holiday for 3 years. He had no ties so he figured that way another person could get the day off. Wasn't that nice of him? Then he met someone and they moved in together. He wanted a Thanksgiving off so they could celebrate their first Thanksgiving together. He'd certainly earned it after all those times he volunteered. The request was denied because his supervisor told him priority for that day went to workers with "families".

This subject really gets me going. I have taken three sick days in 20 years. I mostly have worked for "use it or lose it" private companies, so I have given back hundreds of hours of time. I do believe sick days are for when you are actually sick. Right now, I have a number of straight folks on my staff that have burned through every sick, personal and vacation day they have, with over 3 months left in our fiscal year. You should hear the stuff they make up to get more time off. I could go on all day, so I will stop, without even getting to some of my straight family and friends.

I hear you. I also worked every holiday known to man (and woman), and then got denied when I wanted a holiday off. In my case, though, it had less to do with discriminatory practices and more to do with mindset. They figured since I had worked every holiday before, I wanted to work every holiday ever until I die. This is about the time we came up with the phrase: "Doing it once is a favor. Doing it twice is a job description."

I am a salaried employee as well as my colleagues. One time I was lectured by my boss for leaving on time since there were other patients to be seen. I indicated that I could not stay late as I have an appointment set. Needless to say that was not acceptable and I was written up. Yet my colleagues with children who "must leave" to pick up their children from day care could leave every day on time because that was a reasonable excuse.

LOL re: "philosophical gays."* I can think of nothing better to do than sit around the house all day, staring into space, forming abstract systems and artificial constructs like a latter-day Pangloss and pondering which came first, the testicle or the egg. biggrin.gif

gmginsfo - there are times you just crack me up - thanks for a good laugh this morning.

I'm right with a lot of you - legendary at work for not taking sick days OR vacation - in one example I had a double hernia repair on a Friday, and was back at work on Wednesday, barely able to walk, but getting things done. I have given back vacation days (our sick days accrue to a six month limit, which even I haven't hit yet) in three of the last four years and have twice been put on important projects solo because they knew I would work 90 hrs/week if necessary to get it done.

The good news is that my company is now encouraging me to take vacations, because they recognize they were a little unfair in the past. That is one great thing about working in a non-profit - the pay is lousy but the bosses are more likely to give a damn.

Yeah but everyone knows we are good employees and usually make good money.

We have to be able to buy our expensive clothes and cars! tongue.gif

Let's face it - as long as homophobia exists we deserve more time off, just to recover.

Dr. Cameron should have listed bigot as one of his qualifications. How would you even begin to collect that kind of data?

These people need to start living their own lives and stop trying to live ours.

This is so laughable!!! It is quite simply backwards. Heterosexuals miss many more days than gay workers. I know first hand, my straight coworker misses every other monday it seems, and when he takes his unscheduled vacations with his girlfriend he always seems to miss the flight back and has to stay an extra day or two, and he is constantly getting sick. I have missed two days in 14 months, other than scheduled vacation days. The other openly gay employee where I work also hardly ever misses days at work. It's ironic that the guy who misses the most days and other time from work is the biggest homophobe. He is always sneaking out to play golf with his friends, or taking the second half of the day off for no reason. No-one ever knows where he is. My suspicion is he has a mistress.
In a nutshell, gays tend to be overachievers, and overachievers don't like to miss work.
Aubie In Bham
Heteros miss much more work that gays. If nothing else, having to stay home and take care of their snotty nosed sick kids; or having to leave early to go pick up a sick kid from day care; or WORSE, bring the sick kid to the office to infect the rest of us.

I'd be less productive if I was straight or gay.

These people slay me.

I would have to admit, if I were a straight woman, I'd probably be quite a whore smile.gif

I would miss work to watch the firemen wash their truck down the street from where I live. I need a mental health day like that once in a while!! When they get out the suds that's my cue to go for a tour of the firehouse. LOL wink

Hello boys, don't mind me... you can just keep working with your hoses. LOL

My crazy "Driving Ms. Daisy" neighbor just about set her house on fire the other day cooking a potato in her microwave. Well, ADT calls the fire department and let's just say... Ms. Daisy might be burning a potato per month now if I can help it. Mercy what muscles showed up at her door.
