This will make Catholics out of you all! Today's NYT reports that "ROME, May 27 - Cardinal Bernard F. Law, who was forced to resign as leader of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Boston after a long and painful sexual abuse scandal involving clergy members, was chosen by Pope John Paul II on Thursday to head a basilica in Rome."

And these guys try to tell politicians what to do, and voters how to vote!

It's hardly a reward. It's a grandiose title with no power and fewer responsibilities, given to men whose career is over.

Before his well-deserved disgrace, Bernard Cardinal Law was one of the most powerful prelates in all of Christendom. In addition to heading the third largest archdiocese in the United States, he had the Pope's ear. He would have been among the kingmakers at the next conclave.

Now, he'll just wither away in obscurity. While it would be nice to see him in prison, I think it would set a dangerous precedent of government intrusion into the administration of churches if he were prosecuted. Better to jail the actual perverts, like Geoghan and Shanley, and leave Law be.

I hear Law-less has also got a plum post chairing the Pontifical Institute for Child Rape too! Keep the faith, Bernard, just keep the faith....

Cardinal Law, the epitome of arrogance and shame. I wonder what Christ will say to him when it's time for Law's final judgment.

What's that biblical line about "better a millstone be tied around your neck and you be cast into the sea than to harm one of my little ones"? Or something like that.

What's Law's excuse going to be then?

Law, Egan, Mahoney, Medeiros, O'Connor, Murphy-O'Connor, etc. All of them presided over a grotesque track record of abuse, and almost NONE of them spoke up for the children and young adults. It's institutional.

Now, it turns out that the current right-wing zealot Archbishop of Newark, who is focused on punishing pro-choice Catholic Democratic politicians, basically fought to protect the abusive priests when he was bishop of Peoria...big surprise there! I guess in the minds of warped sickos like Law(less) and this creep, foetuses take priority over living, breathing little children and adolescents any day, and one should turn the other way as priests rapaciously fondle and abuse young people, but committed, loving, non-paedophilic out homosexual adults are to be condemned and barred even from taking communion, as the pimp cardinal of Chicago recently declared.

I guess this disgusting hypocrisy is in an apocryphal part of the Bible and Holy Scriptures I never read....
