Full Version: Opinion poll: What do you like about this guy? Is he inspiring?

This is the first I've become aware of David Dellucci, as I'm afraid I'm not very knowledgeable about the Diamondbacks players (for some reason I haven't been able to warm-up to the Arizona team; I seem to have this inexplicable prejudice lodged in my mind that brands them with the image of being the "Yankees of the West" --probably because they keep spoiling the Giants' chances.) This is certainly a fine photo gallery you've provided a link to, though this topic might be better suited for the
"Hot Jocks Talk" Discussion Board if you'd like opinions about David Dellucci's inspiring appearance. If you find Dellucci's statistics inspiring, this is the right forum, but you might want to give us few examples!
(By the way, Dellucci seems to have real "baseball player proportions," and that captures my vote...)

f'choice, Dellucci always has been "under the radar" of most baseball followers, largely because he's never been a "full time" player....I first noticed him when he came up as a mid-season rookie with the Orioles (who released him in another one of Peter Angelos' many boneheaded moves) about 4 years ago and he immediately caught the attention of the Baltimore fans with his tremendous hustle, enthusiasm, and propensity for making all-out diving catches in right field....some of the fans like yours truly noticed David for other reasons too although he wasn't nearly as bulked up or muscular as he is now....he also impressed me with his positive attitude including having his truck stolen in spring training and laughing about having to find time in his schedule to go buy another truck....even though Dellucci got off to a terrible start at the plate early this season he has been rebounding lately and I look forward to seeing him knock in several crucial runs like he did last post season....but he still impresses me more with his defensive effort and ability (despite his average speed) in the outfield than he does at the plate.

Thanks kindly for the background on Dellucci, gamecock; I share your high regard for those players who may not necessarily be the most gifted and dominant athletes on the field, but who perform with their whole heart, game after game, and year after year. Your description of Dellucci reminds me of several Braves players, down through their past decade of (near) championship seasons. Braves management has demonstrated an admirable loyalty to its players, which is a rare quality in this era of buy-a-title baseball. The Braves franchise isn't perfect, of course, but they have retained journeymen players long enough for them to realize their potential, and for fans to develop a genuine affection for them. (This is in contrast to some other owners who seem determined to sabotage their teams, in order to prove a very dubious point.) Braves player Mark Derosa comes immediately to mind as one of those younger, "all-heart" players, while Keith Lockhart is a more mature Braves teammate who has kept that flame alive inside himself through all the highs and lows of his game; he's practically luminous with integrity when he's on the playing field. (I've also been thankful to the Braves management for quietly trading away the "brats" and the "drama queens." I won't name any names.)

As usual, I've strayed "off topic" once again. Players like Dellucci are what baseball is really meant to cultivate, I believe.

Thanks for the experienced offerings, guys.

My take on Dellucci was, instantly, that he is involved in his game. He must have some excellent supporters, because he tries hard, knows what he's there for, and delivers consistently.

Re his baseball proportions: they are top of the line. He is truly a looker, with Grade A traps (I crave XXL traps!!); nevertheless, that is not why I asked about him, and kept him out of Hot Jock Talk. I really did want to know if he was a respectable athlete.

Woof, woof, woof. Please excuse my gushing, I fell in love with DD when I caught him at a Rock's game at Coors a couple years ago.

I was most impressed and chuckled last year during the WS when he had his first hit at his first at bat in his first World Series ever. The stats guys even went as far as to put up "1.000" for his average. (He ended up flying or striking--can't remember these days--out, so his average nowadays in the WS is .500, still impressive )

Either way, much love to DD. He even beats out Gabe Kaplar (still w/ Texas?). Prefer the "real men" to the "pretty boys"

Go ROCKS!

No, CSU, Kapler was traded to "your" Colorado Rockies by Texas in July....and guys, please don't turn this into another Gabe-fest thread....Dellucci and plenty of other "real" baseball studs are much better to look at IMHO than Gabe and, besides, this board has had more Kapler threads in the past 18 months than we care to remember.

Ugh, talk about egg on my face. No excuse for me not to have known about Gabe with the Rocks. Well, maybe that I've been guarding the Nation all summer. Regardless, Cock, you're right.

Kapler is an excellent player (well, maybe that's exaggerating, but good nonetheless). If we're talking about simply talent, he probably pulls ahead. (He's played this year.) If we're talking about classical "good looks", he wins hands down, but you can keep him. Pretty boys are for girls.

I'm with you guys, give me a man like David any day. Just found it ironic that after having been a member for less than 24 hours, I already found guys who share my, um, afinity for the DB's DD.
