Full Version: Barbra Streisand Hates Free Speech

Charlie in the Trees
and the environment too!

Streisand is suing a group dedicated to ending beach erosion on the California Coast. La Diva Streisand filed a $10 million lawsuit against the owner of a website because he dared to include photos of the Diva's Malibu estate: \"Streisand Sues Over Web Photos of Malibu Estate\"

The website is dedicated to documenting beach erosion on the California coast and includes a huge archive of photos. Given that Streisand lives on the California coast ... in a distinctive palace ... along a recognizable, high profile section of the Left Coast (Malibu), what a surprise that the internet database includes a photo of the Diva Castle.

At the risk of getting Jim & Cyd sued for tens of millions ... here's a link to the website that's she's suing: http://www0.californiacoastline.org/

More importantly, here's the page with the photos of Streisand Manor: Click here to see the $10 million pic

And some folks still wonder why sane, rational people hate Streisand so much (even if we are willing to admit that "Stoney End" is a great song).

Perhaps she doesn't appreciate the implication that she and/or her home are the cause of beach erosion?

With a near-fetish for security [as many stars do], it seems that's where her concerns are, however misplaced.

But for all her other notable talents, it seems she has a tin ear when it comes to estimating the damaging PR she'll generate, along with the unintended [but foreseeable] consequence that the photographs will become FAR more well-known.

It's a bit like Tom Cruise suing over someone saying he's gay. No one would have paid any attention to some gossip blurb--but when he countersues for Big Buck$, everyone pays attention.

I'm sure Babs has had all kinds of strange and alarming threats, no doubt often politically-related, and this is sure to add to their number.

Perhaps she's on much more firm legal footing than her house would otherwise indicate to sue--but it can't be for any practical protection.

The Chattering Classes will of course view this as another prima facie indication that of another wacko hypocritical liberal. I think her record of public statements as well as financial/property donations would prove otherwise. But then again--personal politics these days rarely relies on facts.

Brent -- what a very well spoken posting. I agree with you 100%.

I would also point out that most celebrities/high profile people who have had security concerns hire security firms to help them. Those security firms always teach them never to let people take pictures of their private homes. It makes it much easier for someone to case the place and start figuring out how they might pull off a kidnapping or robbery.

While the site posting the photos was hardly concerned with this, I am sure that Babs' hyper-awareness of all things relating to security ranged right in.

The woman is not altogether sane, but I think there is probably a little more basis for her concerns than would meet the eyes of most of us mortal people.

Aerial photographs of the entire country (with the exception, I suppose, of some military installations) are freely available public domain information. Anyone seeking an air photo could have ordered them from the U.S.G.S or you can get them using microsoft terraserver here: http://terraserver-usa.com/

She can't possibly win this lawsuit.
