I believe there is a Democrat candidate debate this evening at 8pm EST on PBS to those who are interested. It will be in New Mexico.

For the most part, Dallas is a traditionally Republican city, especially the northern surburbs in Collin County. However, things are changing. The swelling population of poor Mexicans and other immigrants in Dallas County is creating a Democratic stronghold. A lot of these immigrants are poorly educated and unskilled, but when they get together to vote, their numbers are potent.
However, corporate Dallas is mainly Republican. The "Boys with the Big Bucks" are Pro-Bush. Showing a debate of arguing Democrats is not high on their agenda, especially during football season.

OK, educate me: I saw excerpts of the debate on the news this a.m. and all I got out of it was a series of really cheap shots against President Bush. Did I miss something? (Lap swimming always trumps watching a debate, but participating in one doesn't.)

I will make it clear, I dispise Mr Bush's policies, and think he is doing more harm to this nation than can be expressed.
BUT with that said the debate last night seemed to be more about everybody showing they dislike Mr Bush more than Howard Dean. it was short on plans.
The only thing I really got out of the debate is Joe would be as bad as Bush,, maybe worse

Well our local PBS station emailed me back and said they did show the debate. But I sure as hell didnt see it on my tv. I think theyre on crack. Maybe Directv's version of the local PBS station is different.
Texas has Republicans? No shit!
Also what Id like to know is, how did Democrats all of the sudden move past religion as an issue for candidates? Everyone used to have a heart attack if they werent voting for a Christian Protestant candidate (save for Kennedy). Now we have Jewish Joe Lieberman. I can also think back to only 11 yrs ago when Larry Brown was getting stabbed in the back because he didnt have a wife. God forbid, no first lady in the White House! Have Democrats really moved on from these things or is it a front? I wonder when theyll start attacking each other personally.

Also don't forget that Kerry is 1/2 Jewish (the other half is Mayflower Anglo-Saxon Protestant), and I think I read that Dean's wife (like Dukakis's) is Jewish , but I could be wrong on this count. Gephardt and Kucinich are Roman-Catholics (maybe Carol Moseley-Braun was at one point, I can't recall). And if you go down the list of Democratic candidates, you have a number of firsts:
[list]
[*]Kerry--first pres of Jewish descent
Dean--first medical doctor and first pres married to a woman of Jewish ancestry, first pres from Vermont
Lieberman--first pres of Jewish ancestry, 1st Orthodox Jew
Graham--first pres from Florida
Gephardt--first RC German-American pres
Kucinich--first RC Czech-American (I think he's Czech and not Slovakian, but I could be wrong on this one) pres
Edwards--first pres from North Carolina
Moseley-Braun--first African-American, first female pres, first born in Chicago
Plus Clark supposedly has some Jewish ancestry too.
I'm not even mentioning Sharpton, whose chances of nomination--or even winning one primary, like DC, are zero (Moseley-Braun could pull that one off).

DallasUNC, those darn Democrats have already started attacking each other personally.Howard Dean is having lots of sh*t thrown at him by the other Democrats. Honey, it aien't pretty. And living in Texas, we have seen more sh*t throwing political attacks than Monica has seen Bill's boxers.

Oh I know. Lieberman was the first to go on the attack at Dean. Shows weakness. Hes just jealous that nobody truly gives a shit about his campaign. Hell, Dean leads now in the polls. Gephart has the backing of every union you can think of. So it isnt fairing too well for him. Im sure a few will eventually concede just after the New Hampshire vote and make it more interesting.
Lieberman is frustrated that despite his OVERWHELMING name recognition advantage, his campaign has the same effect as a box of sominex pills.
The one constituency he was counting on was the jews. He assumed their support and their checks were automatically his. I know many who fantasized about having a first lady named Hadassah. But Dean has robbed him of that as well as Dean's wife, Dr.Judith Steinberg is jewish and a doctor. And per judaic law, the Dean kids are jewish also.
