Wow - amazed, as the College World Series gets underway today - with the meet and greet of the players, the Home-Run contest, and the "Olympic Style" entrance of all the players - and starts play tomorrow, that I haven't seen it discussed here anywhere. [I did see a short thread on the Gamecocks - who DID make it to the CWS.]
This week in June is one of the hottest sports weeks there is. I'm totally bummed because I'm sitting in Lincoln, an hour away, with no vacation hours to take, low on $, with Nebraska in the College World Series meaning tickets are hard to come and expensive when they do...
In short, I'm not seeing these hot young baseball studs in action this year - and nobody here seems to even know its happening!
It's my own fault - frittered away my vacation time instead of banking it like I told myself to.
So - OK, my open declaration that I will be saving my vacation time for two extended vacations in 2003 - the World Men's Gymnastics Championships in California in August and the College World Series next June - taking the full week off for it.
ESPN and ESPN2 have a lot of the games televised (dayuhm, shoulda kept the cable!) and CBS airs the game on Saturday afternoon and the Championship game on Saturday the 21st.
Game tomorrow night is Clemson vs. Nebraska Cornhuskers, so the state will be in a frenzy.

Herr Tiggee
So you're stuck in Lincoln, you have no vacation time left, and you got rid of your cable TV?

Which circle of Hell does that fall in?
Joe in Philly
The College World Series is something I definitely want to do. Maybe next year.

Go 'Horns. Make the Rice Owls hoot with pain!

I watched the GT/South Carolina game which GT handily won 11-0!!!! GO JACKETS!!!

And they must be feeding the boys something special in Carolina because they all looked quite handsome!

I tried to get on the site http://www.collegeworldseries/.com , but I was forbidden. Don't they trust me? One unofficial site is http://members.cox.net/dflanigan/collegewo...worldseries.htm .

I don't follow college baseball much ... I'm allergic to aluminum ... but could someone tell me what happened to all the traditional powers?

I know Stanford and Texas are there. But where are all the Floridas and the Arizonas? No Southern California schools. No LSU. What happened to the big boys?

(Go Jackets)

Notre Dame pitcher JP Gagne

I was stunned that Tech shattered Carolina yesterday. I figured the Gamecocks would be the more poised team, having been to Omaha a couple of times recently. Tech looks like they're hitting stride at exactly the right time. It will be interesting to see how they handle Clemson.

OH MY GOD! That pitcher for Stanford is cute! I've got a new fantasy.

And what's with the football helmet the Notre Dame batter is wearing? So he got hit in the head once, logically next time he gets hit on the shoulder he'll start wearing football shoulder pads???

HELLYEAH the Stanford pitcher is HANDSOME and SEXY! Cyd - are you watching?
Exciting game last night between Nebraska and Clemson - heartbreaking for the locals.
And it's nice on TV with the very close close-ups of the players!

Don't know about all the teams - but for Miami Hurricanes - last year's National Champion, graduated most of its team and evidently did not recruit as well as they could have.
LSU is here almost every year and I think the same must have happened with them. Some of the LSU fans still come up to Omaha every year even though the Tigers aren't here, they just do it every year.

The pitcher for Stanford is JEREMY GUTHRIE - awesome hot! and still in the game as of the sixth inning! Thankfully!

Texas 1 and Rice 0 at about 5:1op PST bottom of the 4th. Go Horns!

I just got back from the Giants/A's game, Giants 6-2 excellent! But I can't get the Stanford pitcher off my mind (or the palm of my hand)!
osufan
billsf, J.Guthrie was Cleveland's number one draft pick this year; he hasn't reported to our minor leagues yet cuz of the CWS, I haven't seen him play yet; but it sounds like he's super hot !

I'm just amazed that those heteros get to shove their lifestyle down our throats on national television!

After watching some of the games on CBS and ESPN, they seem to bend over backwards to include the wives/girlfriends of the players in the coverage. Including giving them title cards with their names, going back and forth to them with more comments, with such details as how they met and when their anniversary is.

So--in the future, when someone tries to tell me that someone being gay has NOTHING to do with their job/sports, I'll site this as prima facie example of what goes completely unnoticed when served up with hetero details, that would provoke howls if/when it were gay circumstances.

Sometimes the announcers get caught in a bit of a jam in discussing what a "fine looking man" the ballplayer is, often after having spent some quality personal time with them at dinners, etc., quickly covering with some kind of reference to their on-field playing prowess.

Some of the on-field interviewers also seem a bit uncomfortable interviewing the players, which struck me sometimes as being the kind of nervousness a gay guy feels around really attractive men.

Too bad they can't get over it all more like the Euro soccer and Australian football players and just realize that gays are part of their fan base.

Good luck to the Gamecocks tomorrow. I'd like to see the lone rep of the SEC take the title, but Clemson would be my second choice for the championship. Here's hoping one of them can win it all.
billsf
Excellent! The Longhorns superior pitching secures them a spot in the Saturday championship game by eliminating Stanford today.

Stanford played a great game, but the Horns prevailed!

GO HORNS!

GO COCKS!
Happy the fans of South Carolina can yell this out loud and wear it on their shirts.
Hope the COCKS win - they are behind now in the 3rd inning. I do wish baseball players would adopt the soccer tradition and take their shirts off after they score!

..or maybe swap pants, could you imagine all those sweaty swinging bats and hanging balls?

Congrats to the Longhorns on winning the title. Congrats to SC for making the SEC proud with their effort in Omaha.

I just have to say...

YEEEEEEE HAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congratulations to the 2002 Texas Longhorns as they grab the fifth National Championship in school history. It was truly an exciting game. South Carolina was a valiant competitor and deserved to be in the championship game.

Pictures and more available at Texas Sports.

On a side note... the Longhorns and the Gamecocks! Could you get two more phallicly symbolic mascots in a game?!?

Hook 'Em!!!
