Yeah, he's a babe--or he was back in high school--but he's also a wingnut gun-freak who was hanging out with people who think that the Black Helicopters are just over the next mountain range:I can't link directly, but it's on 2/13/04 \"Paths of extremism\":
QUOTE
Actually, this only begins to describe Ryan Anderson's tortuous political path -- which began as a right-wing extremist. If he was genuinely attracted to radical Islamism, it would likely be because it displayed the same kind of Manichean dualism as did the onetime objects of his admiration, the Montana Freemen.

Back in the 1990s, he was posting all the time on the Usenet's militia forums while studying at Washington State University in Pullman. He was all worked up about his Second Amendment rights on campus. At one point, he advertised his interest in joining a \"Washington state militia.\" At other times, he commented sympathetically about the Freemen's standoff in Montana.

Finally, he appears to have dropped out of the militia forums (with a fond adieu to the \"Patriots\"), and shortly thereafter, advertised his interest in converting to Islam.

One has to wonder if this is someone who watched too many damn movies and thought he could infiltrate Muslim terrorist cells -- playing the hero's role in the big silver screen of his own mind. (I wouldn't be surprised if he had the same thing in mind when it came to joining a militia cell.) Certainly, he strikes me as unstable
That last paragraph is the keeper.

He might be on to something with that last paragraph. If you look at some of the stuff linked, there's one newsgroup posting where he expresses an interest in converting to Islam.

Listen to this:

Seince beginning my Arab History 272 class a number of months ago, Islam has almost literaly called to me. I find myself scrambeling to find any current information, but in a collage of 24,000, 18,000 of which are students, even an English translation of the Qu'ran is quite nearly impossiable to find.
I find it really hard to believe that the library of a sizeable university offering courses in Arab History doesn't have a copy of the Qu'ran. If he had really been legitimately interested in Islam, I'm sure he could have picked up an English translation and quite a few commentaries as well.

Yeah, that's where I'd expect a guy like this to be, ranting about the Zionist Occupation Government and how nobody except federal employees has to pay taxes (but, just in case, you can exempt yourself with a mail-order minister's license). eek!

Yeah, his yearbook pic's cute ... but Craig Sheffer was cute once too, remember? tongue.gif

Also, I've seen at least one news story referring to Anderson's wife and their apartment ... what kind of woman marries a guy this wacko?

I just hope this guy understands the charges that are being brought against him. Tonight, CNN reported and showed pictures of when he was arrested for walking down a city street with a gun and a bayonett attachment. I'm afraid of this being another case of where someone falls thru the system of no one getting help for him before it was too late. BTW, in his arrest photos from the gun incident, he sort of reminds me of "Ranger" Dave from last summer's Big Brother. smile.gif

I just don't fathom the mind-set of people like him. I'm very much "anti-group"; I'm not a joiner at all, so a guy like this just moving from one group of people to another hoping to fit in is just sad to me. I certainly understand the impulse, but he might as well be from a planet in the Large Magellanic Cloud as far as I'm concerned.

Gotta love those right wingers, eh?

Sorry for the double post but if I just edited this, it wouldn't bump the thread to the top of the P&R page.

Within a few days, however, using the Gunfighter alias, he posted this message on a personals news group: \"Old fashioned romantic seeks dangerous woman.\"

In the message, Anderson likened himself to Lawrence of Arabia and wrote that he was passionate and \"a little eccentric.\"

\"Yes, I will admit I am not the usual 'man of the 90s,'\" he wrote. \"My dream girl must be a tough, independent minded one who can handle herself and isn't worried about acting 'un-lady like.' A girl who can handle a blade or a rifle is definitely my type. I myself am a fencer, aspiring sword fighter and a gun-slinger with an innate ability with old weapons.\"
Careful there, bucko, you get a chick who's handy with a knife and you could end up like John Wayne Bobbit.

What a sad little man this guy is.
