Shocking news (yawn).

Pentagon Says Bush Records of Service Were Destroyed

QUOTE
By RALPH BLUMENTHAL

Published: July 9, 2004

HOUSTON, July 8 - Military records that could help establish President Bush's whereabouts during his disputed service in the Texas Air National Guard more than 30 years ago have been inadvertently destroyed, according to the Pentagon.

It said the payroll records of \"numerous service members,\" including former First Lt. Bush, had been ruined in 1996 and 1997 by the Defense Finance and Accounting Service during a project to salvage deteriorating microfilm. No back-up paper copies could be found, it added in notices dated June 25.

The destroyed records cover three months of a period in 1972 and 1973 when Mr. Bush's claims of service in Alabama are in question.

Im just shocked, shocked. What a terrible coincidence this is, Im sure those records would have proven he was indeed keeping the skys of Alabama safe.

Gosh, I wish my credit card company would destroy my account balance that way!

BuzzFlash says it all today with this article title...

This further proves the Bush Administartion can't handle the truth. As a military veteran I'm appalled at the lies and coverups of this administration - so much for morals and values.
Instead of re-election we should be talking about impeachment.

Think of it this way: were the Senate and House in Democratic hands, W might very well be facing impeachment. The vote in November 2004 won't solely be for the presidency....

AP Seeks Release of Bush Military Records

QUOTE
WASHINGTON - The Associated Press asked a federal judge Friday [July 16] to order the Pentagon to quickly turn over a full copy of ... Bush's military service record.
....

Records released so far do not put to rest questions over whether Bush fulfilled his National Guard service for a period during the Vietnam War, the AP argued in papers filed in federal court in New York.

AP first sought the Texas records in March, and sued the Pentagon in April over the allegedly slow response.

The Pentagon said in June that military payroll records that could more fully document Bush's whereabouts during his service in the Texas Air National Guard were inadvertently destroyed. And microfilm containing the pertinent National Guard payroll records was damaged and could not be salvaged, according to the Defense Department.

THAT speaks volumes - can you say COVER UP?

It's just, yet another example of the length the Bush Administration will go to hide the truth.

At this point none of us should be surprised...

This request is for a different set of records. From the article, bolding added to make the point:

QUOTE
....
The White House has released partial documentation of Bush's military service in the Texas Air National Guard but has not complied with the news service's Freedom of Information Act request for any record archived at a state library records center in Texas, the AP said in a court filing.
....

Those records came from federal records clearinghouses. Texas law requires separate record keeping for state National Guard service, and those records should exist on microfilm in Austin, the AP said.

Are you kidding me, the Bush cronies missed THOSE records? Bush is slippin, he's not covering his tracks as will as he did in the build up to war!!!

I'm sure those records have now been "lost, shreded, blacked out, burned,...." Well, you get the picture. Now that we are into year 4, we know the drill.

IF the records are ever retrieved they will be altered and found AFTER the election.... rolleyes.gif

Uh oh, I just heard tonight on CBS News that the Department of Defense found at the beginning of this week, but just issued LATE TODAY copies of W's pay stubs from 1972, and yep, he was...missing for AT LEAST three months...
gobar
Fantomas, did they really say that he was absent? I can't find that anywhere on the web and am at work so I've missed the news. If you can please link. Thanks.

Bush's Military Records Fail to Dispel AWOL Charges

QUOTE
By Adam Entous

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Some of ... Bush's missing Air National Guard records during the Vietnam War years, previously said to be destroyed, turned up on Friday but offered no new evidence to dispel charges by Democrats that he was absent without leave.
....

The Pentagon, which had announced two weeks ago that the payroll records had been accidentally destroyed, blamed a clerical error for previous failure to find them.
....

Bush was the son of a U.S. congressman at a time when National Guard service was seen as a way for the privileged to avoid being drafted for Vietnam War duty.
....

The documents released on Friday by the Pentagon included two faded computerized payroll sheets showing Bush was not paid during the latter part of 1972 and offer no evidence to place Bush in Alabama during the latter part of 1972.
....
Also Bush has a bridge for sale he wants you to buy. He's in Texas, on - what else? - vacation.

Needless to say, this story did not make it out in time for the network news.
gobar
I did just hear it over NPR. They did say that there are no records of him being paid during the two months in question and no indication that he was in Alabama at the time. Well, I guess that settles that.

Sorry to seemingly double post twin, oh and thanks but I've never been in the market for a bridge (nor any shit from the current administration). He he.

Think twice about that bridge - it was only used by little old ladies to go to church on Sunday.

Another link, but it's the same old [story].
