http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=stor...icans_killed_28Americans have been repeatedly warned by the U.S. State Department be cautious in Yemen, a country where central government authority is weak in tribal areas, guns are plentiful and Muslim militants have found refuge. Yemen, the ancestral homeland of al-Qaida chief Osama bin Laden (news - web sites), has been a key front in the U.S.-led war on terrorism.

Oh yes, Yemen! Recently didn't the U.S. (with Spanish cooperation) have to accede to Yemen's request that Scud missiles being shipped there (from North Korea? or was it somewhere else) be allowed to continue to port--since they were for the Yemeni government?
Also, wasn't the recently arrested Buffalo cell made up of Yemenis, some of them born in the U.S.? One member of the cell who had eluded capture supposedly was killed by a drone missile a few weeks ago...in Yemen.
Yemen is a mess. Parts of the nation are not under government control, just like Pakistan and Afghanistan. Warlords and tribal leaders, who may or may not have Al Qaeda links, are in control. It is bin Laden's ancestral home, and he has paternal relatives, I believe, still living there. Oh well--I'm sure there's a government plan for dealing with Yemen as with Pakistan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, and some of our other troubled "friends."

It's an unsettling situation there. Although bordering Saudi Arabia, they don't seem to have any resources (or the organization to mine any) and their situation is a detriment to an already bleak world view of Arab people (at least from the U.S. point of view).

A few years back before 9/11 I found myself having a crush on a co-worker of mine. He was a short cutie with black hair, black goatee, nice eyes accentuated by pretty eyelashes. One day I asked him where he was from. And when he told me Yemen it went right over my head. I knew nothing about Yemen. He then told me how he gets stopped and scanned each time he enters an airport or an office building. Again it went over my head. I was just so in love.

Amazin12, this is really a response for another thread, but I second your experience with Yemeni guys. I used to come across quite a few Egyptians, Yemenis and Lebanese in northern New Jersey, and I tell you, quite a few of these guys were VERY sexy.
