Full Version: Genocide in western Sudan as world watches and ignores

In recent years there was genocide in Bosnia and Rwanda. Now astronomical human rights violations and genocide and slavery are occuring in Northern Sudan. The Muslims who rule Sudan are enslaving and slaughtering the Christian and animist in the North of the country whilst the world watches. The media refers to the muslims killing the Northern Christians as Arab and the northerners as black but that is erroneous logic. All sudanese are black- the muslim part speak a dialect of Arabic and are mainly of black African blood but are a different tribal society than the people in the North. The muslims in Sudan have the full support of cultist Louis Farrakhan of the nation of Islam sect. The muslims in Sudan have enslaved the Christians for ages. Young children and old people are subjected to mass rapes. The muslims are systematically starving the other tribes in the north to death. And George Bush says nothing about this genocide.

There have been human rights problem after human rights problem in Africa for years...........

I know French troops are somewhere in Africa improving the situation in one country.
Good Hands
Bush? You're pointing your finger at the wrong person. How about any Muslim leader from across the world? If it were Christians killing Muslims, the "Arab/Muslim street" would be claiming that that justifies killing Christians, Jews, and Americans.
Nevertheless, the West would attempt to stop the killing. Oh wait, that has happened already--in Bosnia, where Americans (Christians and Jews among them) have been protecting Muslims from other so-called Christians. Bosnia was/is terrible, and the action to stop the killing was a good one, I believe. And those so-called Christians don't seem to understand Jesus' message. But regarding Sudan we do not hear Muslim leaders say or do anything. The silence is deafening.

Of all the posts you've started this weekk, Sergei, I've got to say that this is the most compelling.

You're right. What is happening in Western Sudan along with the North Korean internment camps are the two single greatest and ACKNOWLEDGED tragedies in the world.

I do have to agree, though, that no one in Africa or East Asia has done much to stop either.

Like a number of people here, I am not happy with Bush. But for a different reason. He missed a wonderful opportunity to invade Iraq on a humanitarian pretext. Vietnam invaded Cambodia and was condemned. India invaded East Pakistan (Bangladesh) and was condemned. Tanzania invaded Uganda and was condemned. If you're going to violate international law, the reasons have to be solid.

Wow. I guess I'm seething. I know that if our policy is less about WMD and more humanitarian it we would be obligated to invade both Sudan and North Korea. But, at least, millions of lives could be saved.

No you are correct. The muslims do not care about this at all. It is Muslims killing christians and animists and they don't give a damn at all. The world cannot be silent with this genocide occuring. Farrakhan of the nation of Islam is denying that it is even occuring. He is paid big bucks by the Sudanese dictatorship. Remember that the leadership of sudan was in cahoots with Bin Laden so that shows there inhumanity.

The last two times the Presidents Bush did something about genocide - both in Iraq - they were either hated or adored. Wringing hands and quoting cliches ("The world cannot be silent ...") is useless and hypocritical when those words are later turned on those - like the Bushes - who showed the courage to act on behalf of humanity and are now taken to task for it. Either we're going to actively work to right wrongs in the world or we're not. You get your ballot and you make your choice.

To paraphrase Emerson, a wise consistency bedevils only small minds.

Okay, this is about Sudan, not attacking or praising and defending the Bushes, so let's get back to the topic at hand.

First, not all Sudanese are sub-Saharan African Blacks (Nubians etc.). Second, the United States under both the last and the current president has pushed to stop the Arab Sudanese attacks against the Christian and animist Nubians in South Sudan.

HOWEVER, non-Arab Black MUSLIM and non-Muslim Sudanese in Western Sudan are now under attack, and are being driven from their homes, into Chad and other neighboring countries, by people affiliated with the dictatorial pro-Arab, pro-Islamic leadership in Khartoum.

The issues of race and religion, along with slavery, are quite complex in Sudan (as in most parts of Africa--like the WORLD), and what that country's government has been doing is criminal. It would be a wonderful thing if some Muslim nations--especially the Arab ones that might have some sway with Sudan--spoke out more, alongside Western condemnation of what's going on. None certainly are willing to use their armies or militaries, however,to stop what's happening there. That'll be left to the UN, or western countries, to intervene.

Illini, I imagine that you were speaking about the Ivory Coast, where ethnic and religious divisions (as in Nigeria) have destabilized what was once a truly prosperous, developing country. France currently has troops there--and, as has been the case for hundreds of years, is directly responsible for the mess currently occurring there too. Sending troops is the least it could do. (Cf. the USA and Haiti.)

Sudan was recently elected to the United Nations Human Rights Commission. This is nothing short of obscene, and there should have been a much larger outcry.

It is rather obscene that Sudan got elected to the Human Rights commission. I wonder how much of that was done to piss off the United States.

The situation in Sudan is one of few places that American Evangelicals have done anything positive.
Sergei
No the muslims ruling sudan are not pure Nubian but regardless of what they say they are mainly negroid racially. I know of no muslim nation protesting the genocide there.
