The county is just north of Albuquerque. Not a bad drive from Denver, might have to go, the cost is $25 with no tests, waiting, or residency requirements.

NM doesn't have a DOMA, and the clerk said the lauguage of thier law says the contract is between two people, without reference to gender.

This is getting crazy, I hope all of this isn't for nothing.

Well, the genie's out of the box. I just saw the report on New Mexico's Sandoval County (is that the name?) on "Newshour with Jim Lehrer."

Now, if another large county or city in a state without a DOMA law follows San Francisco's lead, it may be unstoppable. Does New York have a DOMA-type law? Would Pataki be amenable, or is he angling for a gig if he thinks W gets re-elected?

Well, they are working on getting an Oregon "DOMA" on the ballot in the fall:

Initiatives filed against gay marriage

While it is true that 3 anti-gay initiatives were defeated, it seems that gay marriage in general carries less support based on polls. Seems kind of late to be starting this process, since there are a lot of signatures to gather to even get this put on the ballot. Stay tuned.

Has anyone else worried about all the same-sex marriage media attention and the number of counties now offering marriage licenses for same-sex couples. Are marriage licenses public record? What would stop hate groups from obtaining all the same-sex marriage license data and targeting these couples through hate crimes? There are some scary groups out there that will do wicked things in the name of God. What would stop our own Bush-wacked government from keeping a database of all register gay couples and when the time comes, herding us up for the camps... I can almost hear the train engines in the distance... I am scared. eek!
