OK, this past weekend I rented "Revenge of the Sith" because I wanted to see it again (and because I love the Star Wars movies). Afterwards I started to think over the whole scenario of how the Dark Lord took control. First, he fabricated a war with the trade guild. He then used that as an reason to build up the military and take control of the Republic. Once the war had started, he was given increased "emergency" power from the Senate who blindly united behind him in an act of patriotism. As the war waged longer he dismissed those who wanted peace and elimated the Jedi by claiming they were not patriotic/they were traitors.

So let's see here--he fabricated a war, then used the war to increase military spending and executive powers, then used the war as an excuse to get away with abusing power and disparaging the opposition. (Now that is FREAKING scary!) Fiction or real life? Are George Bush and Emperor Palpatine the same person? (or should I say George Lucas and Karl Rove?)

No need to worry. Everything is fine.

I still think he looks like the pope

Well Im pretty sure that parallels Nixon and Vietnam probably when Lucas wrote the screenplay. But it certainly does look like itd just assume as be George Bush with the current state of things. But who do we peg as Annakin Skywalker? I dont know anyone in the Bush admin who is as hot and brooding. Condi would make a good Darth Vader though.

I too am seeing parallels (however coincidental) between the prequel trilogy and our country's recent trials. I wish we had something akin to the Jedi to turn to for a little help...unfortunately we will have to defeat the dark side on our own. wink Which I think is still possible.
