Full Version: Another One Bites the Dust in Chicago's Hired Truck Scandal: City Clerk Now Indicted

There were a few old, related threads on this already, but the links in them were old and not valid anymore, so I decided to summarize this huge scandal here, along with its greatest prize yet, the city clerk. Interesting note: Laski's predecessor was forced from office, too, for corruption. When Laski took over, he promised to clean up city hall. Uh huh.

Laski is the second Pole in a row to get busted in a scandal. The city clerk's office has traditionally been "reserved" for someone who's Polish. Now that Laski is through, Hispanic groups are calling on Daley to appoint a Hispanic, because, as one activist on the news last night said, "He owes us. The Poles have proved they are corrupt. It's time for a Hispanic." His comments didn't go over well with the Polish community, of course, which happens to be the largest Polish population in the world outside of Warsaw.

Here is the story of Lasky.

If U.S. Atty. Pat Fitzgerald was making notches on his belt for each of his indictees, he'd be on belt #3 by now probably.

This is in the link, but here's a summary of this scandal:

QUOTE

CAUGHT IN SCANDAL

39
people have been charged in the federal government's investigation of Chicago's Hired Truck Program, including 22 city workers.

26 of them have pleaded guilty, including 14 city workers.

20 have been sentenced to terms from 3 years of probation to 7 years in prison.

1 former city worker will never stand trial. He died after he was thrown from a horse.
And the beat goes on...

And Mayor Daley is unscathed. Thanks for playing, MIB. Try again.

Indeed he is, and may remain so, but to imply that he is totally ignorant or innocent of everything that has transpired may not be accurate.

My esteemed boardmate fantomas has often chimed in on this as well, as he understands that the buck must stop at Daley's desk.

But like I said, Daley is still unscathed. Oh, now who was your hero, was it Ronald Reagan who was the teflon president? Well now, I guess we have a teflon mayor. Again, thanks for playing. Now try again.

I can't play when the game itself isn't being played. My point is not to indict Delay; rather, I am simply pointing out the endless corruption in the cesspool that is Chicago and Cook County politics.

You can excuse Daley all you want--I don't dislike the guy, FWIW--but one thing's obvious: his city government is horribly corrupt.

MIB, regarding Cook County government, I have two words. Forest Claypool. He did one heck of a job with the Chicago Parks Department a few years back, I think he could do the same for "Crook" County.
