From CNN. QUOTE
The nation's Roman Catholic bishops said Friday that over the last year they received 1,092 new allegations of sexual abuse against at least 756 Catholic priests and deacons.

The report is the latest in a series the bishops commissioned to restore trust in their leadership after the clergy molestation crisis erupted in the Archdiocese of Boston and spread nationwide.
Last year, the bishops released an unprecedented statistical review that found 4,392 priests had been accused of molesting minors in 10,667 cases between 1950 and 2002.

In other shocking news, many baseball players have taken steroids, Santa Claus doesn't exist and the sun rises in the east.
I don't know how anybody who attends (and supports with donations) the Catholic Church. The people have the power to put this thing out of business and that is exactly what it is...a business.

These religious 'leaders,' such hypocrites. Now it's the
Greek Orthodox church. QUOTE
Greece's embattled Orthodox Church leader begged the nation for forgiveness Friday after a blitz of allegations ranging from trial-fixing to purported sex escapades battered the church's reputation as guardian of Greek culture and honour.
* * *
The crisis began early this month when a priest was charged with antiquity smuggling and placed under investigation in connection with an alleged trial-fixing ring that aided drug trafficking suspects and others.
Accusations then started coming at a dizzying pace: a senior cleric suspended for suspected embezzlement and the broadcast by private TV stations of wiretaps of sexually explicit telephone conversations allegedly involving senior clergy.
The church is also investigating possible trysts by bishops, including a 91-year-old cleric, after a photo published in an Athens daily allegedly showed him nude in bed with a young woman.

I guess the seminaries really have become "semenaries" or, as someone called a Jesuit House in California, Catholic gay camp.
My question is, why can't these priests just act sensible and get boyfriends (or girlfriends) THEIR OWN AGE rather than preying on children? Or is the Church mainly drawing pedophiles, because even the devout Catholic queers no longer want to stay in the closet and wear the cloth?
pope jp11, look, here's a modest proposal: Just allow priests to marry, let women also take over the priestly role (they have far lower rates and incidences of child molestation) AND permit gay civil unions and gay marriages, for the truly-believing homos who can't get enough of the incense and colorful hats, robes and implements, and this insane pedophilia mess will finally abate (somewhat).
As for that 91-year-old Greek Orthodox priest, more power to him!
