During the recent California ballot initiatives elections, gay rights groups worked alongside state govt employee unions to defeat Gov Terminator's silly ballot initiatives. Yeah, they were silly.

With those defeats, you'd think the California labor groups and the Teachers Union would "scratch the back of gay rights groups" in pushing for schools to adopt anti-discriminatory and anti-harassing legislation if the chance arose.

Makes sense, right? NO. CA Teachers Union just snubbed the gay rights agenda.

I couldn't help but think of Sen Clinton's remarks about "being on the plantation" as a metaphor for gay rights group working with the big Democrat groups like the Teachers' Unions.

Is the CA. teachers union an affiliate of the NEA? If so, I can't believe they'd do that, considering how far left the NEA itself is. Unusual, to say the least.

I actually just went to their Website, because I was curious about this stance. It appears as though they've been an active member and supporter of the California Safe Schools Coalition and previous studies on the topic, which was crucial in previous anti-discrimination legislation for California schools, so I wonder if their position wasn't based primarily on what they saw as the "mandatory" aspect of the training. Not excusing them by any measure, because I don't doubt that they could have worked out the language with Kors's group, but it does appear that in the past they have been strong supporters of the equality and anti-discrimination position.
