Full Version: New York Terrorists Were Democrats

Democrats lock up the terrorist vote:

Terrorists were \"All-American\"

My favorite line: "All five are registered Democrats." But only the liberal media would think that being a Democrat was "all-American."

My other favorite line:

\"Another works as a telemarketer.\"

I think the line that they "... enjoy a good game of soccer" makes them much more suspect on the "All-American" front!

I see the Division of Pre-Crime has determined already that the upstate New York suspects ARE terrorists. What did they blow up again, I forget? Was it the NY Times building, and wasn't Annthrax Coulter with them?
William1865
I think if you receive training on how to commit terrorist acts, and operate a terrorist cell, you are a terrorist. I don't think 3,000 people should have to die for the sake of semantics.

There is no need to take pot-shots at Democrats just because you disagree with the party's positions, or because you vote Republican. There is nothing specifically un-American about being a Democrat, or All-American about being a Republican.

Disappointing. If these men were training with bin Laden, they should be vigorously investigated.

W. received the majority of Arab-American votes in 2000. One of his Arab-American supporters even expressed dismay at the government's post-9/11 treatment of Arabs and Arab-Americans given their strong support of Bush. Go to this site for more info on Bush's history with the controversial Sami Al-Arian, who asked for "Death to Israel" on national TV.

I've yet to see any thorough explorations of why, beyond Bush's pointed outreach to Arab-American voters in 2000, many of whom were registered Democrats. I do think Lieberman's presence on the Democratic ticket may have had something to do with it. W. appointed Spencer Abraham, the conservative Republican former U.S. Senator from Michigan as payback for the Arab vote.

Oh, who cares about their political registration? The important thing is that the guy in the picture (the brother of one of the ones arrested) is a TOTAL BABE! (I just thought I would re-insert the "gay" thing into this discussion.)

William 1865- very Ann Coulter-ish of you to equate Democrats with terrorists.

Why else would I take pot-shots at them?
CPT_Doom
I thought maybe we could get beyond pot-shots. I happen to be a registered Dem, but don't agree with everything the party does. Nor do I disagree with everything the Reps do. It does no good, however, to disintegrate every political discussion into a "liberals/Democrats are communists and un-American" and "conservatives/Republicans are all totalitarian facists" debate.

I think a much bigger issue is that these men, if they actually have done what is alleged, were able to blend so well into the background of a city like Buffalo. It makes the danger of "sleeper cells" in this country more alarming (see even a Democrat can root against his country's enemies).

I read in MAD Magazine that the nazi's who were responsible for the holocaust were registered Republicans. Wow.

Don't waste your time. We've had this discussion before, or at least we tried to.

Pot-shots are highly underrated.

Does anybody else find it delightful that, as I read it, Captain Doom is encouraging us to all get along? I love it. Love, love, love it.
CPT_Doom
I admit the Captain Doom nickname came from my roommates, who found me overly cynical, which is why I am shocked that I am trying to be the voice of reason on this board.

Maybe it's not the point of the discussion board, but I actually prefer political discussions when people exchange meaningful ideas, and not a Jerry Springer/Fox News shouting match.

I also am personally disgusted by the bickering between parties on the Hill, and wish that the Republicans would just realize they are wrong on everything and go home.
William1865
One can be reasonable, humorous, sarcastic, insulting and insightful all at the same time. As far as partisan squabbling, the more the fish-eyed fools in Congress squabble, the fewer ridiculous laws those heathens can make, which is generally a good thing.

Edited to include Aunt Esther tribute.

You take a potshot, are called on it, and respond with a potshot. How about addressing the rest of the question? Are you in fact claiming that either being a registered Democrat or a liberal is somehow un-American or less American than being a registered Republican or conservative? That's how you come off and it makes you sound sarcastic and insulting without anything reasonable, humorous or insightful to leaven it.

Joe and Wanda had a small apartment in the city. They decided that the only way to pull off a Sunday afternoon quickie, with their ten-year-old son around, was to get him to report on neighborhood activities from the balcony. They thought that spying would happily distract him for an hour or so. The boy began his commentary as his parents put their plan into operation.

"There's a car being towed from the parking lot," he said. Then, "An ambulance just drove by." A few more moments passed and he called, "Looks like the Andersons have company." And then, "Matt's riding a new bike ... and the Coopers are screwing."

Mom and dad shot up in bed. "How do you know that?" the startled father asked.

"Their kid is standing out on the balcony too," his son replied.

What does that joke have to do with anything? Nothing, but I thought somebody needed to inject a little (obvious) levity into this thread. I guess William1865's attempts were too subtle.

Jqueer, I think his point is to be as obnoxious as possible. Don't let it get to you. Sometimes he is pretty funny--like the Aunt Esther riff. LaWanda Page, we'll miss you.

jqueer - don't worry too much...Republicans think they're right about everything. It's in their wiring. Their way or the highway. Look at Bush and the complete mess he's making of our relationship with the rest of the world. America ain't Texas but he doesn't get that because that's how he's been raised. So, take it easy with these conservatives; they've still got a lot to learn about moderation, compassion and compromise. Which is just what I tell my Dad or my sister every time we start talking about Reagan or Bush senior...they thought Reagan was the best. Oy. (no, i'm not jewish but i find oy works in a variety of situations where I need to express my exhaustion or frustration with something..)

bryan d., at the next family gathering, give dad and sis' a big ol' high-five for me. Thanks, pal.

Amusing example of why this "news" and thread don't really matter:

"With glee, radio host Rush Limbaugh reported this week that five members of the alleged Buffalo-based al-Qaeda cell were registered Democrats (a story headline on Rush's web site announces, "Al-Qaeda Terrorists Urge: Vote Democrat!"). While TSG is puzzled about the importance of the party registration of the arrestees, it appears that Limbaugh has divined some great significance from the group's political preference. With that in mind, we wanted to let Rush know that we've just uncovered the political affiliation of another American outlaw (and, unlike the Buffalo guys, this degenerate has actually been found guilty of something). David Westerfield, who was just convicted of kidnapping and murdering 7-year-old Danielle van Dam, is also a registered voter, according to San Diego County Registrar of Voters records. Now we're not sure what conclusions can be drawn from the fact that this pervert Westerfield is a Republican, but we're dying to hear Rush explain it all to us. (2 pages)"

He's a CALIFORNIA Republican. They're all screwed up on the left coast (except for the guy from San Fran who posts here regularly).

Well, when you've been in the political wilderness for as long the California Republican party has been, it's easy to confuse the forests for the trees. As a result, they veer just that little bit more to the loony right; it's the only way to be heard. [quote]I guess William1865's attempts were too subtle
Riiiiggghttt. Since W1865 is usually about as subtle as a train wreck, doubtful. I guess it was naive of people here to actually dare to hope that he might engage in rational political discourse, but he's only interested in mocking liberals, so I treat him like the slightly insane uncle who babbles on and on at family gatherings: I pretend to listen and shake my head and make appropriate sounds like "Uh huh" and "Yeah, that's it" every once in a while, secretly wishing he'd just shut the hell up.

Um, that was said with love by the way.

William1865, thanks for the compliment; JA, thanks for the invite! Yes, the CAGOP is out to lunch on a lot of issues, and the theocrats are the ones hashing out this leftover church dinner. But that doesn't mean those of us who reject them, their tactics and their agenda are going to stop working to change this party from within and get it back to where it was before disaffected Bible Belt Democrats were lured to it like mosquitoes and infected it with their viral intolerance. In SF, at least, it's working and I'm proud to be part of the eradication effort.
