According to this article they get money from companies that are also putting money into USA Next, the Swift Boat-like group that illegally used a picture of a gay couple to attack AARP in order to help push the Bush plan to privatize Social Security...

QUOTE
But Log Cabin’s leadership perhaps has no choice if it wants to see its money sources left in tact, as it is bankrolled by an industry that is heavily backing Bush and his privatization plan. For years now it has been evident that Log Cabin couldn’t possibly exist on its measly membership and its dues. For a long time the group has taken money from pharmaceutical companies such a Glaxo-Welcome and Pfizer – in $50,000 to $150,000 contributions. Log Cabin has in return acted as a lobbying arm for Big Pharma, urging Congress not to allow generic AIDS drugs in foreign countries, for example, even at the cost of millions of lives around the world. Having gays lobby against cheaper AIDS drugs has a certain cachet – like having blacks lobby against affirmative action – and in that way Log Cabin can be of value to the right.
Inclusion Wins!

Now JIP, you know we are not supposed to show the martyrs of the gay community in a negative light. You took your tax cut just like the rest of us and we've got the LCR working for "US" to make that happen, year in and year out. Ooops, I said "out". ohmy.gif

My, my, my, so inclusion doesn't win after all. They are just a bunch of slimy sell-outs willing to sell anyone down the river. How disgusting. This behavior is shameful to Gays. I relish the response by Republicans to this news flash.

Well, I thought all along that the LCR was a group of self-haters...now, I know it is true. What a bunch of nazis! Have you voted in the What do you really think about Gay Republicans poll? If not, this is a great time to do so.

Let's parse Signorile's screed to try to find what might pass for facts, since so much of it is nothing more than over-the-top, absurdly obvious hype - as well as last month's "news:"

"... perhaps because they’re quietly on the dole from the multinational corporations that would benefit under the plan. ..."

Pretty broad statement there, with a lot of buzz words to anger the left - even though the OS poll shows those who've voted so far are by far either ambivalent or favorable towards LCR.* Who are these dreaded "multinationals?" Specifically, which m.cs. are giving LCR money, how much, and for how long?

" ... For years now it has been evident that Log Cabin couldn’t possibly exist on its measly membership and its dues. For a long time the group has taken money from pharmaceutical companies such a Glaxo-Welcome and Pfizer – in $50,000 to $150,000 contributions. ..."

Perfect segue from the first quote, but still a glittering generality. Evident to whom? Not to me as a long-time LCR member, who's watched our membership and number of chapters grow, especially since the last election. For how many "years," and since and through when? Ongoing, intermittent? And dropping the names of two pharma-corps doesn't faze me in the least; I believe they also undewrite some of HRC's activities. The rest of the rant is so attenuated to anything other than Signorile's demons it doesn't deserve comment; "the thing speaks for itself." Funny that the author didn't mention LCR's work back in the Clinton Admin, when we repeatedly convinced the House to increase the AIDS budget over what the WH had sought.

So, sorry, "nothing to see here, move along." Another night of sound sleep ahead for me. Can the writer say the same?

*Consider shelling out some "walking around" money, Mr. Bobby, if the results have you down - again. Oh wait, you're against voter fraud, right? Thankfully, those who set up the poll are too - you can only vote once. No new screen names now!

Referencing online polls to prove a point? This from the man who claims no argument is valid unless it comes in the form of evidence deemed admissible in a court of law? You're stretching on this one, gmg.

Even if the drug companies gave money to HRC or other organizations, even if the money received by Log Cabin made up a miniscule percentage of their total revenue, the fact remains that they're a gay organization getting money from companies that are fighting against cheaper AIDS drugs. It's enough to make them feel dirty -- if they had any shame at all, that is...

Speaking of the LCR, a couple of my friends are going to the national convention this weekend in New Orleans. Are you going, gmg? I asked my friend why the convention was not held in a more republican venue, say, Salt Lake City or somewhere in Kansas or Oklahoma or in Richmond, home of the most anti-gay republican legislature in the nation, but he said they chose New Orleans for some reason....

No, KWG, you're missing the point. I pointed to the poll your buddy Mr. Bobby urged others to vote in, to disprove HIS implied point. And where was it I saw YOU making a rather nice legal argument the other day? Nothing wrong with that, of course; it adds intelligence and quality to the board that simple quantity does not. The only stretch - again - is your misstating my arguments.

BBRob, no I've got friends in town here this weekend and am staying put. The real action will be at LCR's CA State Convention in SF the weekend of May 13th. Actually, we chose NOLA "to help its troubled economy caused by years of neglect under Democratic administrations." biggrin.gif
