Interesting Houston Chronicle article about House Majority Whip Tom DeLay, who urges parents not to send their kids to godless institutions like Baylor or Texas A&M. For one there's sex at A&M (we're shocked, shocked!!) "... My daughter went there, you know, she had horrible experiences with coed dorms and guys who spent the weekends in the rooms with girls, and all this kind of stuff went on there. It's just unbelievable."

You mean they're having s-e-x? At a college?!

Well, I'm certainly glad my college days are behind me. Just imagine!

Maybe I should have gone to Baylor, or A&M, I didn't get a whole lot in college.

Although I did have members of the opposite sex in my room till all hours of the night, so I guess that my college was just asungodly. LOL

OH!!!! MY!!!!! GOD!!!!!!

Sex in college.....why I never

Elvis, Elvis...keep that pelvis away from me

I'm shocked....

Why in my day, it just wasn't proper to have sex with the opposite sex.... Won't go to bed until we're legally wed...you know the rest...

Least that's what the baseball team told me evertime they sauntered up to my dorm room. Isn't that what the guys told you too.

Gee?... you think some of the guys were just "telling" me that to get me to....

Naw......

You just know DeLay wouldn't ever consider sending his child to a heathen's den like UT. And now a&m and Baylor (?!?!) are too rowdy for him too? Unbelievable.

Of course, that people like DeLay don't send their kids there is one of the reasons Austin is such a great town...

yeah, DeLay is real conservative ... makes Newt Gingrich look like Gloria Steinham. Wait, New Gingrich does kinda look like Gloria Steinham. Anyway, this is hardly the finest Mr. DeLay has to offer. I remember reading a while back that the Majority Whip (that is his House title, isn't it?) had some ideas that were somewhat out of the American mainstream. One of his fundamental beliefs is that American children grow up spoiled and selfish because they have too much privilege, and lest we risk debilitating our great and powerful nation, Americans should start having bigger families so that future generations know they have to work harder and take less for granted. Um ... can't say that I agree, but it's a free country. The man has as much right to his beliefs as we do ours.

Wasn't he a funeral home director before running for Congress? Maybe he's just trying to drum up business.

He was an EXTERMINATOR. He has a right to his beliefs, as extreme as they are...just don't make them national policy!

Mr Delay was an exterminator in Sugarland. Killing his own kind, that is a sin.

Sorry, could not help it but I live in his district and he is a fanatic! I don't know who is worse, him or Sheila Jackson-Lee. I used to live in her district and she is a grandstander!

I had a great laugh when i read the story this morning. It's appalling how a chicken-fried lunatic like DeLay can even get elected, much less wind up with as much influence as he has.

A&M is one of the most conservative schools in the nation, but it's not conservative enough for DeLay? Or Baylor? At least you can drink in College Station (oh boy, can you ever drink...). Maybe Danielle should have gone to that private school out East that doesn't allow interracial dating. The worst part is how he "believes" in the separation of church and state, yet wants creationism to be taught at a state university.

But you know, maybe he has a point. Get 40,000 18 to 22-year olds together, and there's going to be all manner of drinking and screwing, no matter how conservative (although i saw too much of the former and not enough of the latter ). I wouldn't be surprised at all if DeLay's daughter was a Quad Queen (Corps groupie) herself.

do we have any other Ags on the board? Whoop!

the plot thickens ... it turns out Cong. DeLay was kicked out of Baylor in 1967 for his "extracurricular activities" and "too vigorous a social life." Supposedly this included dancing, which Baylor prohibited at the time. (just who was he dancing with ...?)

Plus, his comments on A&M were taken out of context and misunderstood!

"Misunderstood" = "caught on tape."

I'm assuming this is meant sarcastically. However, the Chornicle coverage of this little stunt has been some of the best written and balanced coverage I've seen of this kind of incident. They have given everyone their say and are letting DeLay's words speak for themselves. I'm not sure in what context DeLay thinks it is acceptable to agitate for state legislatures to get PC out of the schools and G-d in, but I can't think of one I find acceptable.
