Full Version: The always amazing rhetoric of "President" Bush

Can anyone spot the blooper in the fourth paragraph of Incurious George's address to the Japanese Diet (ie, legislature)? One ant bright 13-year-old would catch?

"My trip to Asia begins here in Japan for an important reason. (Applause.) It begins here because for a century and a half now, America and Japan have formed one of the great and enduring alliances of modern times. From that alliance has come an era of peace in the Pacific. .."

Not to mention his launch of a half-day panic in the Japanese markets when he said "devaluation" for "deflation"... a much funnier trip than Poppy puking in the PM's lap.

Whoops! I think he forgot the little matter of...erm...World War 2.

And what about Pink Lady and Jeff? That's hardly what I'd call an enduring US/Japan alliance. And it did more damage to relations between us than we'll ever know.
Lots-of-us
Apparently, he was supposed to say "for half a century" and (SURPRISE!!) he messed up.

Nothing our president says surprises me anymore.

BTW, Is anyone else's screen wide on this thread, so that you have to use the lower slide bar below to read a line.
Joe in Philly
My screen is wide. It's because of the link being so long, I'm guessing. I've seen it before on another thread.

Yeah, Bill W put an equal sign instead of an end bracket at the beginning "[URL." Which is why the link isn't showing up.

I will say I am beginning to tire of every third word being "terror" or "terrorist" or "terrorism." I give the President all the credit for toppling the Taliban (just not nice people) but I do not want the "war on terrorism" to be constant and uninterrupted. The "war" cannot be won, quite simply, and it is foolish to spout rhetoric otherwise.

I would like to see spending on something other than the military and "homeland defense." There is plenty we can do with the money we have that will be effective in improving lives here and overseas.

More often than not I vote Republican, but let's tone down the bellicosity.
