Bill O'Reilly of Fox News is taking heat from conservatives over his support of gay adoption, and criticizing opponents of gay adoption as "religious fanatics".

His major point: Isn't it better to have kids in a home, even one led by gay parents, than to rot in foster care?

Wasn't it on O'Reilly's show that Rosie appeared and made an articulate case for gay adoption? Maybe she's making a difference.

O'Reilly is quickly becoming someone who you cannot assume will support or detract from anything. I'll say (for once) that I'm with GLAAD on this one, it's great to see that he believes in this basic right for stable gay couples. However, he still thinks that gay people should "keep their preference to themselves." It's good to see some of the groups who don't want gay individuals and couples to have any rights be on the run from their favorite commentator.

I don't think Rosie was ever on O'Reilly - that was Primetime Live I think.

I don't think Rosie was ever on O'Reilly...

Actually, she was a guest on "The O'Reilly Factor" twice, talking about gay adoptions. O'Reilly even praised her for having the guts to come on his show while other "liberals" refused.

O'Reilly is a self-righteous blue-collar-wannabe who really hasn't had an original thought in his life. I don't know how this myth that he is some conservative thinker got started. I seem to recall that one night, debating some lesbian kiss-in at a WNBA game in New York, O'R compared his suffering as a controversial talk show host, always facing criticism from his ideological opponents, to the plight of gays and lesbians. He's not complaining - why should the gays? If O'R supports gay adoption, it's probably for incredibly stupid reasons.

Here's a great column on O'R, but Michael Kinsley, whose very existence forces me to retract my statement that there are no funny liberals:

Don't get too cozy with this guy. He's figured out how to get for sure ratings during a mid term election year. He's picking a subject on the left(gay adoption) which is easy enough for him to stomach, at least on his show. This gets the religious mafia all stoked. Then at the same time he's saying gays should keep their sexual preference to themselves because it affects children. Man, gays hear this and they're ready to throw down. He's playing both ends against each other. Very tricky Batman!?
