Craig Biggio is back on second base and is doing a completely stud job at it! He's hitting like there's no tomorrow. Bagwell is starting to tear the ball apart. All Houston needs is for Lance Berkman to get off the DL and the three B's are back in business.
I think it's going to be a very good year for this team. wink

Talk about p*ssing away the fan momentum from last season. Wow. Probably the only thing that might keep us from finishing last in the NL Central is the equally hapless play of the Reds or Pirates.

I'm sure by now everybody's read about Baggie's impending shoulder surgery. Here's hoping he has a full recovery.

On ESPN they said that the surgery represents Bagwell's last chance to play. They even said that he'll someday need a shoulder replacement.

Astros sign the Rocket Man's son
Koby Clemens. QUOTE
The Houston Astros know they'll have at least one Clemens in the organization in the future: infielder Koby Clemens, the oldest son of their pitching ace.
Roger Clemens' son, drafted in the eighth round with the 254th pick, signed a contract Thursday then took batting practice with the team during a workout in Houston. His next stop is Greeneville, Tenn., where he'll join the Astros' rookie league affiliate.
* * *
Koby, who bats and throws right-handed, hit .523 (56-for-107) with 10 homers, 14 doubles and 55 RBI for Memorial High School this past season. He also was 8-3 with a 3.17 ERA as a pitcher but will begin as a third baseman.

Yes, definitely....
He's quite popular with the gay baseball fans in Houston as well.
A local gay rag in Houston has what they call their "Gayest and Greatest" Awards each year and Mr. Ausmus never falls below the Top 3.
David Carr won this year, which sorta irritated me since he's such a Bible Thumping Holy Roller, while Ausmus is definitely a gay friendly sorta guy....one of the few who came out in support of Billy Bean when all that went down.

My prediction, after the Berkman grand slam, was for a Bagwell walk-off homer. He came up, but didn't get it. Burke in the 18th was my next guess.
It's too bad Clemens didn't pitch that way on Thursday; then there wouldn't have even been a Game 4. Only thing better would have been for him to hit the winner.

We certainly have had our postseason epic with that game; VERY doubtful it'll be topped the rest of the way.
And though the outcome was great and I love Mr Ausmus, Garner was absolutely nuts not to hit for him in that situation.

I've posted this story before, but it's worth repeating. Following baseball's last work stoppage, Padre players greeted returning fans at the gates. We were living in San Diego at the time and though I wanted to enter via the Steve Finley gate, my partner overruled me and we went through the Ausmus gate. A family entered just before us and Ausmus had hugged their daughter. My partner threw open his arms and asked "Gonna hug me, too?" and Ausmus did. Kyle, who wasn't a big sports fan (primarily went becausehe figured there'd be some sort of spectacle to welcome fans back to the game--he loved any kind of spectacle) suddenly became the biggest Padre fan imaginable and, once we moved to LA, demanded we attend all Dodger/Padre games at Chavez Ravine.

Odd how people can go to ganes all their lives and never even come close to catching a HR ball or even a foul ball. Yet the same guy came away with both the grand slam ball and the game winning HR ball! What luck. Not sure what, if anything, they are worth, but it's a cool story!

I'd have to say I'm still a little worried about the Astro's bats vs. those Cardinals pitchers. I know they put up offensively against the Braves, and they certainly did again last night, I just can't see them beating those Cardinals.
And believe me, I want the Astros to win. I hope I am wrong.

When I was a little kid, I saw the Astros play in their first pennant series in 1980 (and lose against the Phillies). All I remember is the loud cheering/yelling. Hopefully they will be able to pull it off here at home tonight and go to their first World Series.

First off, it doesn't surprise me that the majority of you think that the twinkiest of the Astros are naturally the hottest. Get some hair on your chest, knuckleheads. The hottest Astro, and probably the hottest sonofabitch in all of baseball, maybe even EVER, is Lance Berkman. This is because of the following reasons:
1. He has neither the physique or the attitude of a professional baseball player, looking more like a beer-guzzling Saturday softball guy from some machine shop team, but he's an awesome player. He hit a 3-run homer last night and a grand salami in the Braves series that both made me splooge my jeans.
2. He is the "beariest" ballplayer in any major league sport that isn't the NFL. In fact, he belongs in the NFL. He could be a safety with that gut. See, it's not just the hot-ass beard, it's the whole package.
3. Any guy who gets to do the following thing and not give a shit about it is a-ok in my book forever:

no no no no no....The beariest would be Jason Varitek.

I admit Varitek is hot as f**k, but he shaves around his goatee pretty cleanly, and he was on "Queer Eye". That de-classifies his bear status, and relegates him to "metro-bear". Berkman would only set foot on "Queer Eye" if they gave him free Doritos.

Of course he shaves around his goatee.....that's what makes it a goatee. When you don't shave around it, it's called a beard.
