Read this in the Philadelphia Gay News April 18-24 issue. Couldn't find a link on the web.

James Anderson was a 14 year Associate Dean of Academic Affairs in the School of Communications, Information and Library Services.

After a number of discussions with his boss Rutgers President Richard McCormick, Anderson claims he was not able to get benefits equal to those received by married couples.

The University has a non-discrimination policy that includes gays but is not required by the state of New Jersey, through which the benefit plan is operated, to supply equal benefits, the University therefore chooses to provide reimbursements to unmarried couples that amount to half of what married couples get.

Anderson feels that Rutgers should enforce its policy or eliminate it.

There may be some justification for Rutgers' position but I didn't see it in the article and McCormick would not comment to PGN.
