Well, all of this is true when you have an administration of fools in Washington who spout off that increased attacks on our troops mean we are gaining momentum; the more hated our troops are the more they are loved; Mission Accomplished is a lie; and ah, yes, especially when Rummy says the war is a catastrophic success.

This subject was touched upon on "Hardball" the other night. The first guest was an Aussie correspondant who writes for Time Magazine. Chris Matthews wanted an assesment of the situation in Iraq, as the Reporter had just come back from being on the frontlines in Fallujah. The news is not good. He says that we are slowly losing this war. There are too many things going wrong at the moment, and there are so many more thousands of troops needed at a cost to us of about $5 billion dollars a month.

"Rummy says the war is a catastrophic success"

The phrase comes from none other than Fearless Leader Himself.

We all can agree that "war is hell," although each will put a different spin on that expression. The choice most Americans made on 11-2, though, was to recognize the Iraqi and all other terrorists for what they are and to "stay the course, to persevere" until we eliminate them. An unhappy and dangerous task, but a necessary one, according to most Americans, including myself, who understand history and are determined not to repeat it. That most people in this country feel this way is the second greatest thing I'm thankful for. The first is for our fighting men and women who put their lives on the line every day to allow the rest of us the opportunity to give thanks for their doing so today.

I think we all agree, on one thing, that we support the troops, and that we must succeed, now in Iraq, but again, this war was a war of choice not necessity, and there were no terrorists in Iraq before we invaded, with one exception, Saddam Insane. Once we were there however, the floodgates opened, mainly because we have never had enough troops there to close the borders, and now of course, we find ourselves in the grandaddy of all messes. So yes, failure is not an option, and yes the terrorists must be defeated, but this was a war of choice.

Bush said it in Time Magazine Sept. 6, 2004 issue.
Actually, Donald Rumsfeld used this f**ked up expression on Feb. 20, 2003...prior to the invasion/occupation. I suppose it is one of Karl's talking points.
QUOTE
DONALD RUMSFELD: What we expect is that it's our job to be prepared for any conceivable contingency. And therefore all the way from that unhappy thought -- and dangerous thought -- all the way over to catastrophic success where so many people surrender so fast that the task becomes very quickly humanitarian assistance and medical assistance and water and those types of things. So they have developed contingency plans for the full spectrum of contingencies.

"Actually, Donald Rumsfeld...."

Well. I hadn't known that. Thanks for the correction. I see I shouldn't have believed that Bush could come up with an original thought.
