This column from the St. Louis Post-Dispatch deals with the whole issue in a very positive and empowering way. I do not know the columnist well, but feel her message is what we all need to hear more often.

QUOTE
I felt embarrassed for a society that makes this simple fact of life a sentence of internal torture. America is better than this.
With all due respect to those who cite the Bible as the iron-clad law against homosexuality, this nation was founded in large part by folks fleeing the tyranny of having others' religious beliefs imposed on them. How do people forget this? No place on Earth is more free than here. And nowhere is freedom more critical than in choosing our faith. Here, no one has the right to say: Here's what I believe, and how dare you dispute me?
Believe what you believe, but practice it in your own life.

I doubt Chrissy's continued high profile in her father's campaign will hurt her father's run for the presidency. They've obviously concluded it could help, choosing to talk about it and keep her front and center. Those who viciously oppose homosexuality were not exactly the pillars of Gephardt's support. The Gephardts are presenting their handling of the matter as a stark contrast to that of Vice President Dick Cheney and his wife, Lynne, who once said of their gay daughter, \"Mary has never declared such a thing.\" Democrats are, in fact, dueling for the gay vote, trying to lure fiscally minded, gay Republicans to their side. Taking this risk hints at progress.
I thought you might enjoy reading something more inspiring from the nation's heartland. And the entire column:
