Well, it all depends on what the definition of is is.

Was the terrorist attack on the Centennial Olympic games in Atlanta (that would be in 1996, well within the last decade) be considered to be done by a man of Middle Eastern descent? No, sorry, one of the two casualties was a Turk, is that close enough? Or the the other three bombs planted by Eric Rudolf? The most prolific terrorist in American history certainly wasn't from the Middle East. I'm pretty sure the Unabomber was from the Midwest. The second deadliest terrorist attack in the history of the United States was committed a guy named McVey. Doesn't sound very Arabic.

Then there's the question of what a terrorist attack is. I would say the murder of Alan Berg was a terrorist act. I would say the Chicago shooting spree by a member of the Church of the Creator was a terrorist act. I would call the Sacremento murder of a gay couple by the same pair of brothers who burned a synagogue a terrorist act, as was the arson. In fact I can only think of two terrorist actions committed on American soil that weren't committed by white Christian males. But it all depends on how you define terrorism. Ann Coulter seems to define it as violence perpetrated in the name of Islam. Evidently violence perpetrated in the name of Christianinty or the white race is merely violence. Violence she explicitly condones and encourages. (which, of course, is "exageration for effect.")

And it's no fair actually checking my facts, as this is merely opinion and satire. As long as the gist is somehting people agree with me recognize as something approaching the truth, I'm more accurate than Coulter's usual columns.

Jqueer: Airports, security checks, travelers: the topic is terrorist attacks on commercial airplanes, not terrorist attacks in general. Inconvenience for air travelers doesn't extend to the situations you're so eager to find Christian white male culprits for.

According to AC, 100 percent of the successful terrorist attacks on commercial airlines for 20 years have been committed by Arabs. Now, the figure may be short of that (knock yourself out verifying it), but we certainly know that it's not elderly white women or handicapped black men who fit the profile.

I see the benefits of 'profiling' - but - I also see the problems. (See above).

Where did this stat come from? The Air India bombing (which killed 329 people, mostly Canadians, in 1985), for example, was likely caused by Sikh militants.

Canmark: That example actually provides a response to ironjohn8's comments about Sikhs. As in, good thing our poorly educated security workers often mistake Sikhs for Middle Easterners, eh? Besides, quibbling about whether the figure is 100% or 90% doesn't destroy her point. Now, if the figure were only 10% or something, you could say she's full of shit. But we both know that's not the case.

Anyway, I only wanted to point out how misguided a certain vein of criticism that has her pegged as a right-wing nut job is, not go back and forth about just what type of person is responsible for attacks on commercial flights. (And we're all agreed that it's not elderly white women or handicapped black men, right?)

Most of AC's "hateful" lines are rhetorical flourishes that are meant to hammer home some other point. Quoting them out of context and then attacking her may indicate that you either didn't get the point or that you have an underdeveloped sense of humor. Because, even if you hate her politics, she's wickedly funny. And a masterful prose stylist. Really incredible writer. If I were a teacher, I'd have my students read her columns as examples of the best sort of composition. Clear, effective prose. I find her a real joy to read.

Did no one read Al Franken's Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them? He shows in several instances where this vicious woman has been caught in lie after lie. The story you're referring to, if I remember correctly, was called Toads and Diamonds. The younger sister who helped a good witch was gifted with the ability to have flowers and jewels flow from her mouth. I can't believe I still remember that one. Anyway, isn't Ann Coulter the one who wrote How to talk to Liberals or is that a different author.
