Anyone else ever wonder if there is such a thing as karma?

Since Bush has taken office, is it just me or does it seem like there has been more harm done TO America and Americans? From 9/11, recession, record deficits, major hurricanes - natural disasters, etc.

Do you think it's all by coinsidence or karma?
MIB
9/11? The planning on that started many years before Bush took office.

Hurricanes and other major disasters?

To be honest with you, Pewter, this whole poll you've got here is really stupid. To even begin to put Bush or ANY president's name and these tropical storms in the same sentence the way you do tells me you've gone off the deep end.

Hey Nancy, I mean MIB.

It's not a scientific poll. rolleyes.gif

Isn't it possible that it's karma? Isn't it possible that "Almighty" ISN'T always on "our" side? Isn't it possible that Jesus also thinks Bush is "special" (read "STUPID")and has made us less safe, less "Christian", less "American"?

DISCLAIMER:

"MIB is also on of my "Special" Children, PF too!"

I've thought the same when I've heard Bush refer to the "Almighty" like God is an American!

Christianity is a religion, not a nationality. Maybe God is attempting to make that clear.

Then again, at this point, hasn't Bush played every other angle? What's left? Now let's try the "holy war" angle and see how that plays. By the results of the polls - not well.

Are you two nuts? Who let you out of the institution? Why the hell are we discussing a frickin' politican and NATURE in the same sentence?!?

Karma??? Huh?

It's called NATURE! Here's an assignment for you: research hurricanes and what is called the thirty-year cycle, which refers to periods of roughly thirty years when tropical storm activity peaks and wanes.

Just when I thought I've heard it all, Pewter comes in and lays claim to the prize now.

I think it's a legitimate question. The Republican Party is within the grasp of people who think that G-d manifests himself on this Earth in proactive ways and is directly responsible for all that happens here. If that's the case, one has to ask the question why all this bad stuff is happening on the watch of the guy they say is His chosen President.

It's only a stupid question if you reject the givens under which the religious right labor. If you take them at face value, they do have some explaining to do. Obviously someone as educated and enlightened as yourself will understand the complex nature of the Will of G-d and recognize that one cannot make direct correlations between natural disasters and what humanity, or any society within humanity, is doing at any particular time. With your intellect it's understandable that you're having difficulty grasping what is really a very simple question aimed at very simple people.

Even though I do not agree with the question, I certainly agree with the logic behind the question. When does the judgement of the right wingers actually start affecting their own actions or is this a case of "it's not a reflection of our actions, just yours." I believe it was Jerry Falwell who said the responsibility fro 9/11 fell on the shoulders of gay and lesbian Americans. Because we are living in sin, God allowed the acts of terrorist to happen. Does the same apply to Floridians? Are they living in sin and are being punished with many Hurricanes? Is it the mean old people who are drawing the wrath of an angry god? Maybe families who have lost houses to the land giving way because of lots of rain, and or floods could have prevented these disasters by being the kind of Christian that God wants you to be. It's all the same rhetoric that the right wing has blabbed on about for thousands of years; preying on the ignorance of others with mythology and fear. I'm not saying that is all religion, and in fact I am very spiritual. What I'm saying is that we should all reccognize when religeous leaders pull the wool over peoples' eyes and speak up against those hypocrites.

I posted this article on another thread this morning, but considering what wna said, I thought I'd put another twist to this thread. God help us if the theory of conspiracy & 9/11 is true. The fascinating thing would be that if it is true, then are the "right-wingers" behind it too? Or have they been duped like the rest of us? I guess we really won't know the answer to this since so many CIA & FBI files will forever be sealed. Read on:

Welcome to this world. Congratulations. I only have enough vodka left for me. Get your own. Apathy is free.

Karma? I'll give ya karma - the weather geeks were warning about global warming's real impacts for some time. Two straight years of this hurricane crap has me wondering if America's status as Polluter Numero Uno is giving us exactly what we've earned.

Is karma responsible for this latest one? Gulf coast oil production...hurricane of the century...hmmmm.

Erik, baby, out of vodka? I'll hook you up with some sweet Russian love. Regarding the poll, I wish you could have included "victim of circumstance". Not only is it my favorite quote by my favorite comedian, Curley Howard of the Three Stooges, but, to a degree, the Curley quote is applicable to out current state of affairs.

Miller how did you know I am Russian wink

Karma is a touchy subject with me. I like to keep it to the good touching.

"coinsidence" ? Is that spelled right. Need another nip of the sauce. tongue.gif

Coincidence, I think.

I want another choice besides karma or coincidence. Coincidence takes all the guilt off the wrongdoers and the right won't understand karma, it's too much of a lefty idea. Maybe if we called it bad juju - now I need spelling help - that they tend to understand better.

Seriously, ugly stuff happens during all administrations. It's like our personal lives; it's not what happens, it's how they handle it that matters.

That's where Bush is failing us.

I would prefer fewer choices than "coincidence or karma" since if there is only one truth there are simply multiple ways to it, perhaps as many as there are people. The same would be true with "luck or fate".

Likewise hell and heaven would be the same place. The here and now is whatever you make it, or how you choose to perceive it. Any administration's responsibility is for its preparation of the nation for many eventualities.
