Hey do you have some ability? Maybe you'd like to play in this years MLB All-Star game tomorrow night in Milwaukee. There are openings. Thanks to the ever-growing list of lazy-ass ballplayers backing out of the mid-summer classic. Randy Johnson is the latest. Some people think it's labor-related. Most of them use the excuse, "I just wanna get ready for the 2nd half." Whoa! Well blow me over!

I think these lazy players look at making the All-Star team as a chore. It's a sign of things to come for future all-star games. Watch. It will become en vogue and hip to skip the game and take the 3 day vacation.

Randy Johnson, Pedro Martinez, Tom Glavine, Matt Morris are all out. Morris has cited mental and physical fatigue in the wake of teammate Daryl Kile's death. That is certainly an excuse I can accept. And at least he will be on the bench. Glavine has suppossedly been bothered by a blister. Fine I guess.

But Johnson and Martinez have no excuse. Pitching one inning is not going to exhaust them for the second half of the season. I can imagine the uproar from either of these guys if they were overlooked. They were obvious choices this year, but suppose their stats were slightly below par and Torre and Brenly picked others.

In all fairness to Pedro, I think he wanted to to go, but he was urged by Grady Little and the front office to bow out so he could rest up. This is the first time since the '98 season that Pedro has not been on the DL prior to the ASG, and pretty much everybody thought the rest would be invaluable. Although his results (11-2, 2.72 ERA) might indicate otherwise, let's not forget that last season's injury could very well have been career-ending.

True, he could have gone and just sat on the bench, I guess. But if he's not suffering from a specific injury, that'd be kind of lame, not to mention it would deny a very worthy player a spot.

Actually I'd rather play with an all-star player. I watched the home run derby tonight. And I knew sure as the world is round, Bonds would give a half-ass performance and be eliminated in the first round. In fact I'm surprised he even made an attempt. This is one of the few sure bets I have had in my life. Thanks Barry for allowing me to believe in my gut feelings.
And the team with the best record in baseball right now only has three players in the ASG. Hummmm, Americas favorite pastime is showing us this year they are as corrupt as the rest of the American way. Thanks for that one Selig. Now I wonder what part of our lives is going to disappoint us next. Judy Garland was a myth. Striesand already had a nose job. The Simpsons are cancelled.
