Full Version: heavens, are Derek's "intangibles" rusty? Yanks lose another series

I was sure after reading how Joe Morgan and other mediocre MLB analysts were convinced the activation of the 5th (or 6th) best AL shortstop would "revive" the Yanks, that the Evil Empire would never lose again!!! Yet despite 3 singles in 8 AB by the Most Overrated Player in Creation, Anaheim goes for a Stadium sweep tonight...

1) The '98 Yanks' win total is safe (let alone the '01 Mariners').

2) When a player's "intangibles" are trumpeted endlessly by the mainstream media, it probably means his production has been steadily decreasing for years.

Do you hear the Bosox, one game back? Is it conceivable that the AL West can snare the wild card and leave the Corporate Pinstripers in front of the TV in October?

Yes, I can hear them Bill ... And I'm a huge Yankee fan. And yes it's conceivable....though not likely to happen.

Who would have thought the Yanks would be in the same situation as the Mets? ...That is, terrified of putting the relief into play?

Funny, though, big Yank fan that I am--something about all that "Jeter Returns" excitement annoyed the f**k outta me. Just get off the DL and play...enough already with all the ceremony and deep bows to Prince Derek.

Then again, maybe that's just my frustration speaking.

Leave Derek alone! He's the only one who's hitting. The Yankees need to give Giambi some caffeine or shock treatments or something...he's a huge hole in the lineup. Has his blurry vision been fixed yet?

yeah, put the onus on jeter. the TEAM isnt scoring and the pitching is coming to earth. i as a huge yankeee fan myself, didnt expcet them clip all year. if ya look at the majors, every team that started to play at a quick clip is starting to level out. but of course yankee bashers will find anything to pick at. see yaz in october.

Read a great quote over the weekend:

"Denying the right to say 'f**k' is denying the right to say 'f**k the Yankees.'" - Lenny Bruce

We all know the Yanks are more than likely to survive the regular season; but one fine year soon, it ain't gonna happen... smile.gif

In only 08 games so far this year, Jeter is already hitting .344! Rusty?!?

*sigh*
Yes, Jeter is having a nice season (i.e., week) so far... but that wasn't my point.

I asked if his INTANGIBLES were rusty, what the sports media calls "things that don't show up in stats." The coverage around Jeter's return implied that the Yanks were bound to start winning (at a faster clip than their 18-3 start?) on his return... for reasons not directly due to his offense and defense.

GM Brian Cashman was quoted as saying "[Jeter] has a presence that elevates everyone around him."

The reason front-office and press types like to say this stuff is that it is unprovable bullshit, as last week would seem to indicate. Unless Derek's teammates were swept by Texas in spite of being "elevated."
