It's similar to those in Congress who spoke out against the FMA, not because they care about equal rights for all of us, but instead saying that it should be left up to the states. It's a copout. Few if any of them have the guts to do the right thing for the right reason, and stand up and say so. They're still running scared in the face of the right-wing attacks. They don't want to risk losing by fighting back with the truth, so they make these wishy-washy statements.
