Oh, great, now the Bushie regime is telling us that Saddam "harbored ambitions to use unconventional weapons". Just more of the administration pissing in our face and telling us it's sunshine.
The Story
fantomas
Of course Saddam did. The US knew this when it was his buddy, arming and bankrolling him. Why does W think everyone is so stupid they can't remember that period? Not all of us were coked out of our minds and drunk as a fish in a wine barrel during the 1980s.

OH MY GOD You mean that evil man Sadam wanted to HAVE more WMD like the ones he provided him to use on the Kurds!
I am shocked! So you mean if the embargo han't worked so well he might have tried to start up new programs?

All sarcasm aside (although I do love it so), Fred Kaplan on MSNBC has a great analysis of, as he puts it, what David Kay's report on WMDs in Iraq really shows - namely that the sanctions and inspections worked.

QUOTE
A close reading of the actual, unclassified report — which Kay delivered as testimony on Oct. 2 to a panel of several congressional committees — reveals not only that Bush’s critics are closer to the mark, but something much more significant: that Saddam wanted and, in some cases, tried to resurrect the weapons programs that he had built in the 1980s, but that the United Nations sanctions and inspections prevented him from doing so.
It may be that the lack of WMDs in Iraq is really a demonstration of the power of the UN.

And the speciousness of the administration's claims. Let's not let those liars, prevaricators and exaggerators off the hook.

To now say that Saddam "harbored ambitions" is a bit fresh considering the following:

"Simply stated, there is no doubt that Saddam Hussein now has weapons of mass destruction."
Dick Cheney 8/26/2002.

"We know for a fact that there are weapons there." Ari Fleischer 1/9/2003.

"I have no doubt we're going to find big stores of weapons of mass destruction."
Kenneth Adelman 3/23/2003

Sadly, I'm sure that they'll hoodwink the American public once again (as they did with linking 9/11 to Iraq).

I "harbor ambitions" to win the Texas Lottery, should I go run up my credit cards?

I think the phrase "harbor ambitions" has been classified by the Bushie regime as a terroristic statement...so, run up your credit card and Rummy and Asscrack will be beating a path to your door to show you a ripped up copy of the Constitution and how it is now unamerican to "harbor ambitions"!
fantomas
But don't Dean, Clark, Gephardt, Kerry, Moseley Braun, Kucinich, Edwards, Sharpton, and Lieberman "harbor ambitions" of replacing W in office? Isn't that at some level terroristic? eek!

BTW, one of the chief exhibits the Kay report shows is that an Iraqi scientist had stored a vial of botulinum toxin IN HIS REFRIGERATOR--and it'd been there since 1993. The strain, B, is weaker than the more dangerous A strain, AND in 1995 Iraq did declare that it was working on weapons using botulinum. If a vial of botox was worth a war, are we going to invade Los Angeles and Miami next?

Lewis Carroll, Rube Goldberg and Thomas Pynchon together couldn't come up with nonsense like W and Co. have put forward!
