I'm checking online for tickets for the Phils-Red Sox series. I tried the first day tickets went on sale and had no success, but they now have "obstructed view" tickets available. How "obstructed" is the view, exactly? They're in section G18 in the Grandstand. Are they worth the forty-plus dollars per ticket?

And their website notes that the seats on top of the Green Monster and the new right-field roof seats will go on sale shortly. Were the Monster seats sold only at the box office last year or were they also sold by phone? My vague recollection is they were in-person only.

The degree of obstruction varies -- in the grandstand, it'll be a pole blocking your view of some part of the field. 'Course, you can always try to move into an empty seat, as you can with a same-day standing room ticket.

Last year, advance purchase of Green Monster seats was determined by lottery, with 20 or so saved for same-day sale at the box office. Same will be true of the new right field roof section, I expect. Keep an eye on redsox.com in early March for the official word.

(My friend Roy and I have seats this season in the "traditional" right field roof section, visible at the lower right of this photo. There's also a new elevator for that part of the ballpark -- woo hoo!)

I completely, hopelessly fell in love with Boston when I went there last October for a flag football tourney. I would *love* to watch the Angels kick the crap out of the Sahx in August at Fenway, money permitting, of course.

I stayed with my friend Don in Beantown during the flag football tourney, which coincided with the heated Sox v. Yanks playoff series. He lives about 10 minutes (walk) from the ballpark. We drove by Fenway while one of the games was on and the noise, even from the street, was amazing.

Must. get. to. Fenway before they move or reconfigure it.

Have you been there before Joe? If not, don't worry about location, just get in and work it.

Haven't been there before, and talking to my 2 brothers and nephew today (the 4 of us are the ones going) we decided we don't want obstructed view seats. Thanks for the info.

Here's an interesting tale.

The Red Sox put the tickets on sale for the new Right Field Roof through a lottery that you registered for at their website (similar to how the Phils parceled out tickets for the first game at the new ballpark). I registered but wasn't selected.

Then they put the tickets on sale for the Green Monster seats using the same system. I registered but wasn't selected -- at first.

The trip we were planning was for me, one older brother and his son (my nephew) and one younger brother. As it turned out, my niece was selected to go on some school trip with a band to play in a few cities overseas (such as Prague, Czech Republic) so my older brother is going with her instead. Meanwhile, my younger brother also had plans that weekend as it turned out, and with canmark's Gay Day with the Blue Jays also being that weekend, I figured that was it.

Yesterday I got an e-mail from the Red Sox saying I was selected for "Phase 2" of the Green Monster sale (not everyone who was originally selected bought tickets, or something, so there were still some tickets available for some games). I had to log on today between noon and 11 pm using a special ID and password to get to the ticketing system.

I spoke to my older brother, who said that they still wanted to see Fenway even if it wasn't for a Phillies game, but it would be hard to tell when they might be available, especially later in the summer. So I logged on, managed to get in, and I looked at the schedule. Some games they had standing room only, others they had seats. I decided on a game against the Kansas City Royals because I figured there wouldn't be as much demand, and there were seats (as compared to standing room).

I managed, after some traffic delays, to order 4 Green Monster seats for the game. WOO-HOO! Right? The Green Monster seats! Very rare opportunity! WOO-HOO! Well, there's one slight problem. The game I picked out?

It's on Mother's Day. eek! eek! Who knows, these tickets may end up for sale on eBay... wink

Take Mom to the game - that's what I'd do!! smile.gif smile.gif

Problem solved!

There are two mothers involved -- our mother and my brother's wife (mother of his children). He may try and persuade one or both moms to go on the trip for the weekend and let them have lunch or sightsee or something for a few hours on that afternoon. I'm not sure if it's going to work out, though.

Well, after some debating and procrastinating and such and such, we're not using the 4 Green Monster tickets for the game on Mother's Day, 5/9. So if anyone wants them at face value ($70.00 each) before I put them up for sale tonight on eBay or StubHub or whatever, let me know.

Joe, I'll take them. It'll be a surprise for redsoxbreath (don't tell him). Email me at pamola@att.net.
