After quite some time of hearing how people are coming in to Iraq from other countries to wreak havoc......

Defense officials disclosed that only 90 of the 5,700 detainees in Iraq are not Iraqis.

"The Bush administration has insisted that foreign insurgents are playing a key role in Iraq, led in part by Abu Musab al-Zarqawi. Jordanian-born Zarqawi is leader of the Jama'at al-Tawhid and Jihad, which has claimed several deadly suicide bombings, assassinations of Iraqi officials and the kidnapping and beheadings of a South Korean and an American hostage.

Of the 90 foreign captives, about half are from Syria and others are from Arab countries including Egypt, Iran, Jordan, Yemen and Saudi Arabia, defense officials told Reuters."

The invasion of Iraq may have further stifled any hope of reform in Iran and the occupation may be attempting to prevent domestic democracy from evolving in Iraq, preferring instead a regime more amenable to US corporate interests. The results of any vote held at this point would be unlikely to support continued occupation and exploitation of the country by the US. Iraqi democracy may not be good enough for Bechtel &co.
