Full Version: Political cliches

Just to lighten the spirit a little on what is often a very heated and partisan forum:

http://www.sportscliche.com/politics/index.html

I tried the quiz and was disappointed that I only managed 6 out of 15 (I thought for sure my answer to number 8, "leave no child un-spanked" would have been the right answer!) I guess some of the buzz-words and cliches used by politicians in the United States are different from what I'm accustomed to hearing on this side of the border. A couple that come to mind here in Canada: (1) "We will get to the bottom of this scandal!" (used a lot lately by Paul Martin); and (2) "judicial activism" (a veiled phrase constantly used by social conservatives to complain about 'left-leaning' judges who rule in favour of anything to do with gay rights).

PS, Since this is Outsports after all, check out the link to Sports Cliches as well.

My score:

16-17 correct: You're a casual sports fan, often guilty of channel surfing at halftime

I'm better with political clichés than sports clichés. I scored 13/20 on sports:

12-13 correct: You're obviously not much of a sports fan. You only watch the Super Bowl for the
commercials.

I scored 13/15 for politics:

13-14 correct: You're likely a big fan of C-SPAN and talk-radio. You anticipate January's
State-of-the-Union speech more than the Super Bowl.

This was great fun...and quick. On the political cliche quiz, I got 13, which means "You're likely a big fan of C-SPAN (yes!) and talk-radio (no!) You anticipate January's State-of-the-Union speech more than the Super Bowl." That's true--but I look forward to the Stanley Cup Finals more than the State-of-the-Union.

On the sports cliche, I scored 18, which means "You spend most of the weekend in front of the television. You listen to sports talk-radio exclusively in your car. You like starting the argument that golfers are athletes." Some of that is true...

I got 13. I got caught up in an " alliteration " trap and guessed "free" instead of accurate elections, then substituted "plan" for vision, maybe giving politicians too much credit. I avoid the state of the union speech altogether when I don't like the choice for President and only watch it if it's replacing a favorite show - or my partner wants to see it - when it's a President I like. The only office I ever held was vice president of my senior class and the presidents alive so...
