Interesting article in Sunday's NYTimes about differences in lifestyles between self-identified GOPers and Democrats.

To keep it sports-related, let's begin here. What is your favorite sport?

Republicans:
Football: 31%
Baseball: 12%
Basketball: 11%
Golf: 6%
Nascar: 3%

Democrats:
Football: 22%
Basketball: 15%
Baseball: 10%
Hockey: 9%
Tennis & Running: 8%

(note: the article only listed the top five sports -- and it didn't state whether these are favorites to watch or to participate)

from the article:
"The political profile of the typical Republican or Democrat is certainly well known in this overpolled nation -- starting with the fact that Democrats like activist government while Republicans like tax cuts.

But there are more differences between the two parties than, say, what they think about the budget deficit, at least as suggested in a recent national poll that ... served up a platter of quirky if revealing difference in the day-to-day habits of both parties.

Consider this: those describing themselves as committed Democrats were more likely than their Republican counterparts to say they enjoyed traveling abroad, tennis, listening to NPR and watching 'Law & Order,' according to the national poll conducted in June for the New Democrat Network by Penn Schoen & Berland.

Republicans like golf, the Fox News Network and listening to Christian radio."

There are interesting charts in the article about being a workaholic, eating too much, church-going, gun ownership, MTV watching, hunting ... I'd provide a link to the article -- it was in the "Week in Review" section -- but it doesn't appear to be on the times website.

Republicans are NASCAR fans. Snicker. Doesn't surprise me a bit.
