GOP Rep. takes junket for \"love and forgiveness\".

QUOTE
A Missouri Republican and her husband took a two-day, all expenses paid trip for the official purpose of sprucing up her spiritual life, according to today's Roll Call.

The Michigan-based Fetzer Institute, the stated mission of which is to \"foster awareness of the power of love and forgiveness through research and education programs,\" paid $1,108.70 to send Emerson and her husband, Ronald Gladney, on the two-night excursion the weekend of Jan. 20.

Emerson wrote in a recently filed travel disclosure form that the official purpose of the trip was: \"A time for spiritual self-reflection and an open and honest dialogue.\"

Is she freakin' serious??? rolleyes.gif

Of course she is.

My favorite recent scandal involves none other than Katherine Harris of Florida, the enabler of the flawed 2000 presidential election and now the Republican candidate for US Senate in Florida. She is currently embroiled in a spectacular bribery scandal (big surprise there), and has responded by going into hiding.

There are so many other good Republican scandals, though. In addition to the Abramoff scandal, the other one that keeps on giving is the Duke Cunningham (sentenced to 8 years this past Friday!) scandal, in which one of the chief contractors, Mitchell Wade of MZM, is now implicated in a host of scandals relating to other Republicans, like Katherine Harris!

Then there's Ohio, where the toxic money-laundering and financial theft scandal engineered by Tom Noe has touched nearly every major state Republican, including the governor, Bob Taft (who was convicted of ethics violations last fall) and Senator George Voinovich.

And let's not forget Plamegate, or the warrantless domestic wiretapping (Alberto Gonzales admitted last week that he maybe didn't tell Congress the whole truth--oops!), the theft of FEMA funds, the theft of Iraq funds...the party of limited government is also the party of limited governance and maximum corruption!

Maybe Joanne Emerson is banking on her nutty trip looking like small potatoes by comparison.

I wonder if the Repugs will now increase funding to federal prisons since so many of their buddies seem to be headed to the big house?
