Full Version: Bush using drugs to control depression?

Okay, I've had three different people forward this article from Capital Hill Blue (and it's lighting up numerous blogs), so can anyone tell me, is this a legit outfit? The other articles on the site appear to be confirmable, though I haven't seen any other reportage on this one--is this another Onion-style paper? I have seen Frank's name before, and Tubb is W's doctor--at least according to the White House's official site.

I'm all for proper treatment for depression, paranoia and any mental illnesses. But if W is on antidepressants, uh, shouldn't the American people know this before making decisions about his future fitness for his position? Gals and guys, is this for real?

Capital Hill Blue: Bush using drugs to control depression, erratic behavior

QUOTE
President George W. Bush is taking powerful anti-depressant drugs to control his erratic behavior, depression and paranoia, Capitol Hill Blue has learned.

The prescription drugs, administered by Col. Richard J. Tubb, the White House physician, can impair the President’s mental faculties and decrease both his physical capabilities and his ability to respond to a crisis, administration aides admit privately.
“It’s a double-edged sword,” says one aide. “We can’t have him flying off the handle at the slightest provocation but we also need a President who is alert mentally.”

Angry Bush walked away from reporter's questions.Tubb prescribed the anti-depressants after a clearly-upset Bush stormed off stage on July 8, refusing to answer reporters' questions about his relationship with indicted Enron executive Kenneth J. Lay.
“Keep those motherf**kers away from me,” he screamed at an aide backstage. “If you can’t, I’ll find someone who can.”

Bush’s mental stability has become the topic of Washington whispers in recent months. Capitol Hill Blue first reported on June 4 about increasing concern among White House aides over the President’s wide mood swings and obscene outbursts.

I saw the same article linked from Wonkette today. I don't know anything about the source, but agree about the public's need to know if there's anything to it.

Uh-oh, I kind of put this in the same category as outing. Let's suppose that the source was a health care provider, which may or may not be the case. If this is true, whoever blabbed about it to the press ought to be forcibly removed from whatever position he or she has in the health care system and banned for life from ever working in it again.

For the record, I am taking medication for depression. It's not exactly a stroll in the park.

I have now outed myself.

I'm taking this with a grain of salt. The article claims Bush publicly referred to reporters as "motherf**kers." I think if that were true it would've been all over the papers.

Capitol Hill Blue is definitely NOT a reliable source.

Well...if this is true, it won't be the first time he's used drugs. smile.gif If he's depressed now, just wait until November! I can joke about this stuff since I am on meds, too.

Who, or what, is Capitol Hill Blue?
Musings, brain drain and rantings started by a grouchy old ex-newspaperman named Doug Thompson in October 1994. That makes us the oldest surviving news site on the Internet. But dont' take our word for it. Go to Google and see if you can find anything older. Bet ya can't.

Sometimes we are joined, more or less, by a ragtag cast of current and ex-newspaper men and women who wander in and out of here like homeless children. Some still work for news organizations and use Capitol Hill Blue as an outlet for the stories their outfits don't have the guts to publish. Others are retired, but can't give up the Muse.

Nobody here draws a salary. We couldn't afford to pay salaries anyway. All money, if we ever get around to making any, will go back into the product. Or maybe we'll send out for pizza. But it couldn't be any bigger than a medium.

So, who's in charge?
Damn good question. We've been wondering that for a long time. Somebody must be in charge around here. We're sure of it. Well, we think we're sure of it. On second thought, does this place look like we have somebody in charge?

You can reach our editors at info@capitolhillblue.com. It might work, but don't expect them to accept responsibility for anything.
Hardly seems like a reliable source.

If you're amused by the above article, they have another article on their site saying "Sullen, depressed president retreats into private, paranoid world" and compares it to the last days of Nixon's presidency. Link

At least no one is spending millions of dollars trying to prove he got a blow job and then trying and spectacularly failing to convict him of high crimes and misdemeanors for it. I'd say that was a bit more obsessed than posting a questionable news source that is labled as a questionable news source.

Bush taking anti-depressants???? Frankly, I'm surprised the whole country isn't on prozac or zoloft to combat the national state of depression caused by Bush. wink
