Everytime I read stuff like this it only burns what little respect I have for the GOP in any way, shape or form.

This is the usual right-wing thuggery, which involves among other things changing the rules or outrageous shenanigans to harm or hurt gay people. I'm all for gay adoptions; there are way too many children in this country who cannot find straight parents, including the ones who brought them into this world, to take care of them properly.

(BTW, NJ, no need to use an apostrophe-- ' --to make plurals.)

I agree, NJ. I get so frustrated and angry at closed-mindedness like this that I'm tempted to condone the use of fear-mongering and the spreading of half-truths to achieve what I consider to be better ends.

But then I tell myself that most of these people are operating from fear as opposed to outright hatred. And that education and exposure to different people and ideas will eventually bring about the peace I ultimately want for everyone. After all, if I expect people in the Middle East to embrace those with different beliefs and work peacefully together to find a resolution to their conflict, the least I could expect of myself is to do the same with those with whom I have ideological differences.

So I bite my tongue and try to figure out the good motivations underlying what I consider to be negative behavior. The judge in question has probably had experiences which reinforce the negative images he has of gays. He's probably truly concerned about the welfare of the adoptees.

At least that's what I tell myself... we'll see if that's the case.

I read an upsetting story in my morning Spokesman-Review about how once again, the conservatives, perhaps feeling emboldened again, are going to go after the rights of gays and lezbians to adopt in some 16 states.

According to the article "Republicans battered by questions over ehtics and Iraq, " might well" use the adoption issue to deflect attention and draw out conservatives in close Senate and Gov. races in states such as Missouri and Ohio," said USC political scientist Sherry Jeffe.

Nice.

Same ol' Republicans...want to tell people how they should live their lives but have no intention of changing theirs to make up the difference. How many of these anti-gay adoption peeps do you think will go out and adopt some of these children taken out of their loving, gay parent homes? Umm, very little I'm sure...

But wait!!

We still need to have MIB and PhillyFan tell us that we left-leaning commies don't know what we're talking about, and how the Republicans doing this really walk on water.

Funny how the few Rethuglicans we have on this board remain as silent as a mouse when real issues arise. I'm just sayin'!

I'm reminded of that saying by Mark Twain (?), and I paraphrase..."better to be thought a fool, than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt."

I see the reason for their silence. biggrin.gif wink

Not to worry....Uncle Tom's Log Cabin is "working within" to change the GOP!
