When Ferraro ran for VP in '84, I remember long discussions on the news as to whether Mondale should kiss her, and where. In some ways I think the fact that we are joking about this is a real statement on the advancement of women in government. Twenty years ago, women were so worried about being taken seriously that they tried to mimick men as much as possible (those horrible 80's women's suits - ugh!). Now that, although far from completely equal, women have made their mark in nearly every field, they are more able to be relaxed and themselves - to show feminity while also weilding power (okay, maybe Condi isn't so feminine, but she's Miss America compared to Janet Reno

).
