(I was unsure whether to post this in the "Politics & Religion" or in the "Baseball" forum, but since I remember a poster being chastised for bringing politics into a discussion in a sports thread, I decided for the former.)

Well, if you need another reason to root for (or against) biggrin.gif the Red Sox, here's one: co-owner Tom Werner donated $2,000 to Kerry's campaign and attended a rally in support of the Democratic candidates.

QUOTE
“I’m a parent. I have three children, and I am tremendously concerned, not just about their future, but about the future of our country,” Werner said in an interview. “Anything I can do to articulate why I think John Kerry is an extraordinary person and deserves to be President, I’m happy to do.”

Some 375 Kerry supporters packed the right-field stands at Holman Stadium yesterday, many with campaign stickers on their Red Sox shirts, jackets and hats. The campaign handed out placards, much like the standard Kerry-Edwards signs found at other rallies, but with a slight alteration. The new signs read: “Kerry-Red Sox: We Believe.”
A few months ago, I read an article --which I couldn't find on the net-- about campaign contributions to presidential candidates from baseball team owners. It mentioned contributions from Cubs, Astros, Yankees, and Cardinals owners to either Kerry or Bush, or both. The only ones I remember were from the Yankees (for Bush) and the Cardinals (one co-owner donated to Bush; the other to Kerry).

I remember that article you are talking about. I remember it specifically because it said San Francisco Giants owner Peter McGowan had donated $$$ to Bush. Ugh. I'm wondering why that story didn't get more play in the bay area.
