From the Los Angeles Times:

"Connecticut Senator Joe Lieberman and North Carolina Senator John Edwards have snagged two key endorsements--not from Washington luminaries, but from sports personalities.

Lieberman earned the support of Chris Berman, an ESPN commentator, and Edwards is backed by Dean Smith, the legendary former basketball coach of the University of North Carolina Tar Heels.

'While the other candidates trash talk each other,' Smith wrote in a letter to Edwards' supporters, 'Senator Edwards keeps his eye on the ball, focused on his goal. Especially over the last few months, his optimism and faith in this country has been inspiring.' Smith is a orth Carolina icon, said campaign spokesperson Roger Salazar. 'He is obviously a well-respected figure, and there are lots and lots of sports fans among our supporters,' Salazar said.

Berman, known as "The Swami," also tossed out a sports metaphor or two to express his support of Lieberman. 'The Swami says Joe Lieberman could...go...all...the...way. Just like the Patriots!' Berman said in a statement this week."

I'm sure this doesn't compare at all with the Fred Phelps endorsement the punk-ass-chimp will be getting any day now. smile.gif

Sorry, but Madonna told me to vote for Wesley Clark. Like I'd vote for someone endorsed by the annoying Chris Berman anyway. Sheesh. biggrin.gif
George Twins fan
Did Berman make up one of his witty little nicknames like Joe "Robert E." Lieberman" or more self servingly Joe Lie"Chris"berman? Ugh! I get douche chills every time he's on ESPN now with his oh-so-tired schtick. Lieberman didn't have a prayer anyway, but having Berman's backing should put the fianl nail in his Political "Whooping" Coffin. rolleyes.gif

When Berman isn't snorting speed during commercial breaks, he's actually pretty good. I like him as a baseball announcer.
Jim at Outsports
His nickname is Joe "Ya Gotta Be" Lieberman. wink

Bobby, Fred Phelps is a well-known Democrat. Gore and he have headlined the same fund-raising events. Just FYI.

bobby's referring to the raving lunatic "Reverend" Fred Phelps from Kansas. This can't be the same person you refer to, araanib.

Absolutely he is. Fred Phelps from Topeka. He ran for office several times under the deomcratic ticket, mon ami. And he hosted a support gala for our own Al Gore when he was campaigning in 1988.

Al gore

Not under LCR

I'm sorry to reveal that Democrats can be lunatics too.

he was a Democrat about 20 years ago. Nice attempt at a smear job. The picture of him and Al Gore is from like the mid 80s.

But if you want to compare homophobes in the national parties, I still think that the Republicans win hands down
