Sorry, Philly Fan- You cannot even compare a lie about having consensual sex to that of a lie that led to the eventual international conflict/war in Iraq. Although a lie is a lie- I would think the latter would merit impeachment moreso that the prior.

To keep on topic- Whoopi made a dumb choice to make the level of comments that she did. Slim-Fast had the right to fire her. Although I do believe that the present administration has created this atmosphere that has made television stations and other companies fear not admonishing celebs for their comments. I have no idea if the administration is actually putting actual pressure and making comments/threats- but sometimes the atmosphere is enough.

Dude, do you even know WHAT her comments were? Do most of the people condemning her? What \"level of comments\" are you talking about? She uttered some sexual double-entendres about W, nothing that late-night comedians haven't done before. Goldberg's standup routines have involved sexual jokes (including political sexual jokes) about politicians for years. Including Clinton and HW (41). The hysteria around her comments though is what I find truly bizarre. The right-wing fanatics are even more terrified and wacked out by sex and criticism of their leader than the Puritans EVER were!

Actually, this was driven not by the administration so much as by the right-wing media (cf. Faux--"Outfoxed"), right-wing groups and right-wing town cryers (like the fanatics behind FreeRepublic, etc.) who actively participated in a non-stop campaign to destroy candidate Al Gore, and before that, Bill Clinton's presidency.

Faux's commentators and the right-wing blogs were on the warpath about Goldberg's jokes. Are they demanding that Cheney step down for urging a US Senator to perform a sex act on himself? Are they clamoring for Dennis Miller to lose his post for implying that Kerry and Edwards are gay lovers? Are they demanding that Herr Gropenführer apologize for insulting his opponents with a misogynistic, homophobic comment? Do they ever speak out about the hateful, outrageous rhetoric from the Right?

None of us should forget that many of these very same people have NO LOVE for GAY people either, and are leading the hype attacking gay marriage and gay rights, twisting them into "special rights" and braying about "activist judges"--they don't want us to have full equality in this society, under any circumstances!
