The title of this thread will come in handy if the team collapses this season. wink But this refers to off-the-field garbage. If it isn't enough that they wouldn't allow season-ticket buyers to pay for their seats in installments OR use a credit card, now they've decreed: in the new stadium, fans will NOT be allowed to bring in food.

And is it because they're money-grubbing creeps who insisted on all kinds of city and state funding for the new stadium? Who STILL haven't come to terms with Temple for their football team to play in the new stadium with the Owls' home opener less than two months away, even though the Eagles got $15 million of state grant money IN TEMPLE'S NAME to go towards the costs of the new stadium? Is it because the concessions in the new stadium will be handled by a company from owner Jeffrey Lurie's home state of Massachusetts?

No, they say--it's all because of post-9/11 security precautions!

Beware...it's the dreaded HOAGIES OF MASS DESTRUCTION!!!!
PCC
You can't use a credit card to pay for your tickets? Why not?

Who carries around cash these days? ABSURD!!!!

I assume they make you pay by check and wait until the check clears before securing your season tickets? Seems kind of ridiculous.

The Eagles did not want to pay the fees to the credit card companies, so they did away with it. They claimed the policy of paying up front with no installments allowed was for this year only, but who knows? This all occurred earlier this year, and there were reports that they would make an exception if you complained loudly enough.

nothing new about greed in Philadelphia sports, and if it's only a small percentage of fans who bring food in anyway, then it really isn't going to require many more security persons anyway. I thought part of the fun of going to Eagles or Phillies games was the concessions anyway, so it costs twenty bucks for a dog and a beer, only have one not four.

I do sympathise with credit card fees though. I really think TicketMaster and the credit card companies have screwed fans by all the additional charges on ticket prices, and whenever possible I buy tickets at the box office in person just to protest and avoid the charges. I guess that makes me a cheap man with principles.

Yeah, they've never been the same since the "Hell Freezes Over" tour ... oh wait, you mean those Eagles! Nev-ver miiiind ... tongue.gif
PhillyFan
um, i thought the food of choice was.... liquid lunch at iggle games.... those soft pretzels ruin the buzz.
PhillyFan
I'd like to call this the "Flyer-iz-ation" of the Eagles. You know, get out the riff-raff in the stands.

They are hoping the new type flyer fans come over. The same ones with thundersticks for god's sake.

All you need to do is make it just expensive enough that they have to give up those season tix they have had forever. Starts with the seat lic fees, moves to food... then 5 years down the road, the riff raff has to decide if they want to pay the electric bill or go to the iggle game.

Sad? You bet.

Then in a few years you can walk over to the phillies ballpark where thundersticks will be plentiful and they all say, well, rolen seems like a nice guy... we should lighten up on him.
scottie
Soft pretzels - the "official" pretzels of the Linc will be Auntie Annes. What about real, authentic, Philadelphia soft pretzels? Those who've had them know that other soft pretzels are...poor imitations. Kind of like buying generic cola vs. Coke or Pepsi. And we can't even bring the real thing into the Linc. Wasn't there a problem with Auntie Annes with the gay community a few years ago?

Actually the soft pretzels sold in Philly SUCK!!! They are not hot, they aren't seperated properly, and you have to put the mustard on yourself! At The Jersy Shore (South end way anyways) The pretzils are hot, individually made, and the mustard is put on for you! As for tickets and the price it is ridiculous, plus the City wants to tax you on parking! UGJH!!!

Now you are not allowed to have banners in the stadium?

http://www.philly.com/mld/philly/sports/fo...all/6320986.htm

Has the Front Office gone completely MAD? How much are they trying to piss everyone off. They are taking away everything that made eagle games fun. Now the creative banners are gone at the "pretty" new stadium.

Top it off, when the hell are single tickets going on sale? They are going to be hard enough to get, let alone trying to buy them a week before the season opens.

It's time that i draw up an email to the front office.... and yes, i WILL spell check that email, and i never do that.... completely annoyed.
scottie
Also banned are umbrellas and strollers. Many interesting questions coming up on our local sports talk station WIP. The no food rule has an exception for medical reason (or else they'd be sued for violating ADA). But what if you keep kosher? What about if you bring an infant or young child? It's been pointed out if this was really for security reasons (vs. maximizing revenue), it would have been done after 9/11, not this much later. Sad that Eagles can't at least be honest, if they said it was part of the contract with food vendor, people would be taking it better than this unbelievable security reasons.
PhillyFan
Mr Banner just needs to come right out and say it.....

In the new pretty linc, none of the drunks are welcome. None of the bitchy fans are welcome. No one who wont give us your last nickle are welcome. Now sit down, shut up and enjoy the game.

Are they going for a new "perception" of the organization and its fans? sad, very sad.

Used to be the only thing you had to worry about was why the fat man was calling a 5 yard pass on 3rd and 8... or why Dmac was throwing a skip pass to the wide open guy in the flat... now, gotta worry if you are offending the organization... bubkus.
Joe in Philly
Sandwich-saving ideas -- there's a petition drive that's now online (at the bottom of the article) to try and persuade the Cheaples...er, um, Eagles...to change their minds about the food ban. And check out images of the two days' front pages. biggrin.gif

As I heard this morning on the radio: considering that they're blaming this on 9/11, isn't it strange that you can still carry food onto an airplane?

Among the list of banned items at the new stadium are:

"VIDEO-CAPABLE CELL PHONES"....how the hell are they gonna enforce this? -- strip search every fan entering the stadium and make them turn on their cell phone to examine its features?....geez, and I thought airport security was tight.

"DISPLAYS OF AFFECTION NOT APPROPRIATE IN A PUBLIC SETTING"....hmmm -- does the Iggles management think they are the "morals police" now too?....anyone care to define this one a little more precisely?....I half expected them to single out us gays, but perhaps it's not too late for the team to expand their ever-growing list. rolleyes.gif

Anyone have a few more ideas on what should be added to the list of banishments at the Linc? -- other than Rich Kotite, of course. wink

I've been a Bucs season ticket holder since 1989 and the Bucs have NEVER allowed you to be able to bring in your own food. So consider yourself lucky that you've been able to do it this long. Hope you enjoyed that last game at the Rat infested Vet!!!!

It was the best game I ever saw televised from Philly!!!! At least you won't have to witness the Bucs smackin the Eagles around (again ohmy.gif ) in person this year. Not a good way to open your new stadium. biggrin.gif

GO BUCS!!!! smile.gif wink biggrin.gif tongue.gif

HI!

I'm a Yucks fan! I've been one ever since they won last year, but yet, i'll proclaim i've been one ever since they played at the big sombraro (sp). I'm so glad that the yucks finally lived up to expectations after being sent home packing the last 5 years!

Warren Sapp is my favorite player cause he can eat 4 boxes of twinkies in one sitting!

YEAH, i cant wait to get this years "battle flag" so i can wave it proudly before the cowboys become good and i root for them again!

Now excuse because i think i'm about to throw up...

much love,

ROFL

DEFINATELY Green with envy, and MAJOR sour grapes because the better team won AT the Vet last year. That game was almost better than the Super Bowl. I have the battle scares to prove I've been a season ticket holder since 89. As I've stated every team has some bandwagoners once they start winning however - I'm not one of them. BUT if it makes you feel better about us making our trip to San Diego with our Battle Flags in hand then so be it. Better luck this year, you're going to need it.

PS - Id be bitter if I was so confident about the win only to have to eat crow for a year after having my azz handed to me at home. If I called Philly home I'd be even more bitter that I chose to live in THAT city.

FLASH, I just logged on to see the first SEVEN topics were sports~!Wow, what a welcome surprise.
PhillyFan
The bandwagon often starts at... i've been a fan since... It's ok to be sensitive about that, i understand... i've met many cowboy bandwagoners in my day... quite easy to spot.

PS havent the bucs been like the odds on SB favorite for like the 10 years? Only to fail expectation?

We'll get this out of the way now, yeah the bucs won the NFC title game... blah blah blah... congradulations...

But before you proclaim this the best NFL football team ever, i'll remind you to look at your playoff history... hell, your recent playoff history against the eagles.

If anything you should go kiss chucky's feet cause he made them shut their trash talking mouths and play a little football.

oh and PS i hold the Fat Man responsible for the loss, not the better team winning.
Cadillac
Whatever. I don't have to "prove" to you how long I've been a fan.

By the way it's "CONGRATULATIONS". Yeah, you are a Eagles fan....

Wanta come over to my place and watch the NFC Championship game again? wink How about the Super Bowl?

Latest Eagles boo-boo - they forgot to install water fountains in new stadium (Lincoln Financial Field) except in VIP seating sections! eek! Today they stated it was an oversight, will work 24/hours a day to install water fountains. In light of "hoagies of mass destruction", there are questions if this was the way to get people to spend more money on bottled water. How could you forget water fountains? Eagles will have temporary water dispensers until fountains are installed. Now city licenses/inspections dept. said they won't issue a permanent operating certificate until water fountains are installed. Stadium will open with temporary certificate.
Joe in Philly
I love it. Two whole water fountains, and they're in the Club Box level. What geniuses.

Apparently, though, some arm-twisting from Gov. Rendell is getting the Cheaples to change their mind about the food ban. According to Action News we can expect an announcement within a couple of days.
maxallen
The water fountain thing is a small example that shows how cities are willing to bypass the normal regulatory guidelines and red tape that everyone else has to go through to get their buildings built, in order to get their new stadium built - and quick.

Water fountains are required by code. A building permit should have never been granted, and it never should have made it through a Health Department review (city or county, whoever has jurisdiction) without water fountains. Whoever reviewed the plans at the city and and health department should be out of a job. However, me thinks a plan review was probably never done in order to push it though more quickly. Also, the architects and plumbing engineers who designed it and signed & sealed the drawings should lose their licenses.
Joe in Philly
The official explanation from the article in the Phila. Inquirer:

QUOTE
In its statement on the absence of drinking fountains, the Department of Licenses and Inspections sought to explain, from its viewpoint, how its inspectors could have missed such a code violation.

\"The most pressing concerns prior to initial occupancy,\" the department said, \"have been the testing, inspection and certification of the facility's life-safety features including fire-suppression systems, fire-alarm systems and emergency lighting.\"

A spokeswoman for the mayor's office, Christine Ottow, said the failure to notice the absence of water fountains - before news reports on the matter yesterday - was an oversight by both the city and the team.

Ottow said the stadium's temporary certificate of occupancy, which \"basically ensures it's a safe place,\" did not have an expiration date. But she said she expects the matter to be resolved in time for the Eagles to be issued a permanent certificate \"before the start of the [football] season.\"
Also, according to the article, such mistakes have happened before--it says that in 1962 Dodger Stadium had no drinking fountains when it opened!

Ahhh....

Between all this in Philly, and the stupid crap the Penguins are putting up with in Pittsburgh (how did the Pirates merit a new stadium anyway???), it's nice to see that in the land of PA, where sports are a religion, there are still things that make you go "HUH, whazzat? No way!"

I'd rather have the faithful and rude in the stands long before the "PC crowd". But that's just me... tongue.gif

No comments there "Gamecock".... biggrin.gif

How long do you think it would have taken the eagle faithful to realize there were no water fountains... i mean really... if no one pointed it out.. it would have taken years.

OH, but dont forget the beer fountain...
scottie
The lack of water fountains were only "discovered" when the Eagles held an open house for season tickets holders and the public last weekend, and people asked where a water fountain was, and the stadium staff couldn't find them... eek! eek!

How many of you eagle fans have been to a NFL game? How many games in the last 5 years?

You act like EVERYONE is allowed to bring in food at EVERY stadium. That is not the case. In fact I'd say you are in the minority for being allowed to bring in food. Additionally, I saw an eagle fan bitchn about the price of a beer!

HELLO!!!! They are expensive at every stadium I've been to and every year they get smaller and the price goes up.

People in Phila. aren't complaining because the Eagles won't allow people to bring food in the stadium. People are complaining because the Eagles management was dishonest with the fans in the city - if management had announced no food in the new stadium, because of contracts with the food vendors, or had simply said it is the new policy in the new stadium and given no reason, people would have been okay with that. Fans may have been upset for a day or two, then it would have been a non-issue.

This became a big issue because Eagles management said the new no food policy was only because of 9/11 related security reasons, and making more money on stadium concessions had nothing to do with the decision. If this was true, everyone wanted to know why the Eagles didn't institute these new measures after 9/11 at Veterans Stadium instead of waiting two years later to ban food.

Is it relevant that Eagles only collected 50% profits on food sales at the Vet (City of Phila. got the rest) but would get 100% at the new stadium? That seemed to be the real reason the Eagles banned outside food at the new stadium. Or has team management not cared about security/safety of patrons for the past two years?

Again, if Eagles management had been honest, any controversy/complaining would have gone away in a day or two. It is only because Eagles management decided to use the national tragedy of 9/11 to cloak the real reason for their new no outside food policy that everyone was up in arms.

If the Eagles haven't learned they need a new PR person from the controversy and honesty does pay, I don't know if they've learned anything.
Cadillac
OK, I better understand the frustration with Eagle management now. Regardless, it's VERY unusal to bring in food to a NFL game. I've been going to games in Tampa since 1989 and they never have allowed food to be brought in. In fact, I've only been to one game (Raiders when they were in LA) that allowed you bring in food.

Maybe the rat infestation at the Vet was due to all that food being brought in????? God knows by looking at the eagle fans of TV they definately eat the food they bring...

What amazes me is YOU'VE been sittin there for 5 years and have not learned diddly in that entire time.

What are you some sort of lemming? The pirate ship wants me to pay 20 bucks for a beer, OH I'LL DO IT, I LOVE MY TEAM. That is just stupid. Perhaps it is because Tampa has such crappy food that cardboard pizza is the same inside the stadium as it is outside.

Fact is, the wonderful Iggle fans refuse to put up with bullshit. In a time when all these jokers think they can squeeze every nickle out of the fans... well some stood up and said NO. You're not taking this away. If anything, that should be aplauded. Even by a ignorant tampa fan, who's never had the guts to show his face at the Linc, or the vet...

thus, throwing this theory out the window....

You can be more creative than this can't you?

Needless to say, there's been a lot written about this in the local press. 1/3 of NFL football stadiums allow food from outside, 2/3 do not. But what I think is very interesting is of all the MLB stadiums, only one bans food from outside.

I will actually defend one statement of PewterPirate to my fellow Philadelphians -

QUOTE

I think it understandable for someone hearing fans are up in arms about a new policy not allowing food in a stadium when that is the policy of the majority of NFL teams to think us Philly-types always whine. Now that PewterPirate knows about the lies of Eagles management he understands.

As far as the rest of PewterPirates comments...back to more important things, like planning Gay Day with the Phillies.

I just find it amusing that PF is still so bitter over the loss to the Bucs @ Philly last year that he can only refer to stats (that can be played however he wants to play them) to back up whatever point he is attempting to make. My favorite post by PF was all about time of possession with the Bucs. Hey, I'd be bitter too if I was from Philly and now lived in Arizona and subjected to media coverage of the Cardinals.

I mean, really i just read the same "we won the game post" in 4 different threads...i mean come on.

and number 2 if you dont think time of possession is important in a game.... what is? how loud you cheer? How much you paid for the beer to put in the owners pockets? how much red you can put on?

btw -- rave reviews for Lincoln Financial Field from the two soccer teams that played the inaugural game there yesterday.

"The pitch is wonderful," Barcelona Coach Frank Rijkaard said. "You can play billiards on it, and it shows. I saw some beautiful combinations out there."

"It's the best I've played on so far," Ferguson said, "a footballer's pitch."

Bodes well for REAL AMERICAN football!!

Did anyone else notice that the Bucs TOP was twice the Jets TOP? THAT's the reason the Bucs won the game.....

or was it that the Bucs never punted the ball?

or was it that the Japaneese fans cheered much louder for the Bucs than they did the Jets?

or is it just that the Bucs have nicer uniforms than the Jets?

or could it be that the Jets were outcoached? or simply the better team?

Only PF knows for sure.....

Or that the jets could give 2 shits if they won or lost that game....They just wanted to get the young kids some work, hop on a plane and come home... and not have any injuries.

PS 1st qtr score... 7-3 jets, when it counted, if at any point it did.
